Interesting to read the comp rules - winner is not "what is judged to be the best photos" / it is in fact a 2 random photos drawn from the submitted pool - will be interesting if its a real shocker what they do with them.

I am another person that is astounded by the lack of quality of the light show on the sails.
Like others have said, I think they have not understood the idea of what "Vivid" means.

I pretty much gave up in disillusion and went back to my Hotel room. This year, I was much better staying in Canberra and just photographing Enlighten Canberra, as I feel that they did a better job.

Something that I would like to see is have periods of no movement for about 5~10 second bursts. Another thing would to start the show a little earlier, so we can capture blue hour with the show. These would make it more user friendly for photographers. I know that is a little self indulgent, but I can only ask.

I am another dissapointed with the "lighting of the sails". Where was all the colour? The comment I kept hearing from people around me was boring. While the displays at the Contemporary Art Museum & Customs House were impressive, I was also dissapointed to see that the displays did not extend up Macquarrie st this year

I also agree with other many other photographers from this group the Opera House was not the best this year. I went with my wife last year and the colours were vibrant. I took my family on Saturday night, we viewed the Opera House from the Observation deck of the passenger terminal, the lighting was dull just like the wet weather. Everything else was amazing.

Hello to all of the members,

I've been taking a look through all of the images being posted to this group and some of them are absolutely sensational - even with the relatively colour-less Opera House projections (compared to previously years), the photos are beautiful.

For members of the 2011 group, you may remember that we created a mash up of all of the images posted to the flickr group. This year, we've actually built that onto vividsydney.com as the photos that come from this event are brilliant.

As a result of our partnership with Intel, we have two Ultrabooks to give away as prizes to people who upload their pictures to the site. These pictures still remain the property of you and we would never use them without your express permission.

If this is something that may interest you, visit the website to upload your photos.

Just joined the group and I would also like to add to the comments about the Lighting the Sails this year. I was with a photography group last night (about 20 people) and the entire group agreed that the Opera House display this year is the weakest by far. Maybe it's a bit of the German aesthetic coming out from the company that did the display, but they seem to have missed the "vivid" part of the festival.
I'm not sure it's something they can change, given the design elements and technology involved, but I think whoever curated Vivid this year has missed an opportunity to really showcase the Opera House like it has been in previous Vivid festivals.
I will be revisiting the festival during the week to reshoot some of the installations (especially the MCA and Customs House, really I think they are the highlights this year), but as far as I'm concerned the Opera House isn't worth it this year.
