Thank you to the more than 2,100 voters who chose the three winning photos of the Save the Redwoods League 2011 Know Wonder© Online Photo Contest! Congratulations to three special voters, who won our drawing for League gift packs: J. Ulmer, M. Langston, and kristea26.

We also thank our contestants who entered more than 500 photos to spotlight the beauty of redwood ecosystems—and the importance of protecting these natural treasures now and in the future.

Thank you. I will read more about that system, because I may even tinker with a tiny contest someday. When I had a tree forum site, I offered dinner for two for submissions of "champion shrubs" in the wild. Similar to how big trees compete using a point system for height and stem size. Not one entry came in - people just get excited about huge trees it seems.

But maybe a small photo contest someday.

We use our CRM system called Convio to power the voting module. It automatically checks the emails and ensures only one vote per person can be cast. Hope that helps!

In addition to enjoyment for photography and forests, I also find the online realm and stats fascinating too.

In this 2011 contest, during voting, how do you folks manage the huge task to validate authenticity of all those votes and emails? A special website module or something? You must have well over a 1000

Save the Redwoods League has selected 10 finalists in our Know Wonder© Photo Contest. Now it's time for the public to vote for the winners of first, second and third prizes.

Choose your favorite! Visitors to the www.savetheredwoods.org/contest_vote page can vote only once. Each voter will be entered in a weekly drawing for the chance to win a League gift pack, including a jute bag, hat, stainless steel water bottle, and more.

Though we prefer images without a large watermark, adding a watermark will not impact the judging so long as the image is still clearly visible.

Be sure to keep a lean file should we need to reproduce your image for our publications!

Protecting our images

Hi There, I noticed that when you right click it says image is copyright protected, that's a start...But when you click on and open it to a larger format, you can then save the image, in fact there is even a download button! Is this open to the public to get our pictures for free?

If I watermark images on this post, will it effect the contest judging? A clean version could be re-submitted later...

Clarification of Editing Rules

I have a question regarding photo editing... I use curves to correct my color balance- but this also tinkers with exposure- would that be acceptable or unacceptable? I would hate to enter any images that break your rules of entry. Thanks!

Per the Rules:
"Minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable. Cropping and fish-eye lenses are acceptable. High dynamic range images (HDRI) and stitched panoramas are acceptable only if the combined parts are all made around the same time.
Any changes to the original Photograph not itemized here are not permitted and will render the Photograph ineligible for a prize."
