For Nikon I've used a Sigma 105mm. But now I am using a nikkor 105mm. The Sigma is good but the nikkor lens is (I thnk) better!

Happy with my Canon body and a Sigma 150 and, sometimes a 100/2.8 Canon.

The 180 Canon is a superb glass, but a bit expensive for my budget and the 180 Sigma, equally good, is out of production and difficult to find

The best macro lens is the manufacturer's lens for your camera. Period. However, a good third-party macros lens is Tamron if finances don't support the purchase of the camera manufacturer's lens. I shot with the Tamrom 180mm macro for over a year before upgrading to a Canon 180mm macro. The focal length used is determined by your subjects. I tend to shoot butterflies, dragonflies, and flowers so 180mm is a good focal length for myself.

What are the best macro lenses in your opinion? I think the Sigma 180/150 are some of the best lenses, but I'd like to know someone else's opinion.
