{Interactive} Piecing ~ a Work of Art!

A new favorite of mine in quilting and embroidery is interactive piecing! I love the way it tells a story and in return, becomes a true work of art!!

Please feel free to add all your treasures that showcase interactive piecing either through quilting or embroidery. Make sure to come back often for lots of eye candy and tons of inspiration!!

that is a great idea! sometimes it's wonderful to have help with the direction of a piece. what fun! it still could be a blind swap and we can all add our 2 cents and ideas!

Thanks for your input Kajsa, I love those idea's. so creative!!!

It's early days but might be fun to incorporate those idea's into the group somehow, maybe as a possible swap in the new year??

Perhaps we could do an interactive swap inspired by Kajsa where we all make suggestions in how someone should continue with their project??
What do you all think? any idea's???

syko Kajsa posted a reply:

Hi it's Kajsa here :) Thanks for talking nicely about my creations!

The reason why I have called some of my projects interactive was because I've made them in cooperation with my blog readers, like Aneela suggests above (an idea I actually got from Australian artist Jules Knoblock who did a painting the same way with her blog readers).

Last Spring I asked my blog readers for their favourite sayings to make work for a show I had in June: syko.typepad.com/syko/2010/06/textured.html

So I think a piece is interactive when you get input from someone else for it in some way or another.

If you follow the link above to Kajsa's photo and blog, you can see why she called this piece interactive as she was adding successive parts to her little quilt as suggested by others. I suppose we are labelling this group interactive in reference to the qualities and characteristics of her amazing quilt and others like it.

The kind of pieces we would love in this group pool are those that are playful in nature incorporating one or more of the following :-
raw edge applique, embroidery, hexagons, patchwork, free motion machine embroidery/quilting etc.

Generally we would love a group full of inspirational pieces which embody a whimsical nature too.

I am trying to figure it out too. I think interactive can mean it tells a story and conveys words. In my pieces I used literature to inspire me and used them in the actual quilt, either in a circle or embroidered on the back. These words were the inspiration or story to the fabric piece I created. i guess that is how I interpreted it.

I'm not sure how "interactive" it is, because I didn't engage my blog readers or anyone in selecting the themes. I've included a piece that I did that involved applique and told a bit of a story (that it may rain tomorrow)

it's not as complex as the wonderful designs by -syko- though. I do hope to get there some day. I included it because it shows my strides towards that direction. I thought it might offer encouragagement to others.. if it's not quite right for the group, I won't be offended. I'm still figuring it out.
