I;m in a bit of a quandry folks.
I have been adding photos to the group which I now see, (Blame my eyesight) are copyright marked, albeit, ever so slighltly. The mark doesn't really spoil the pictures because of the size, which can easily be cropped out, but the idea of the group is to have non watermarked or copyright photos included. What do you all think. As long as our contributor accepts that copyright is excluded on this group, should we continue to include them. Time for your views .

Keep 'em coming'

Thanks for that.
I try hard to attract new members and new additions to the photos, so your last comment is very much appreciated.
When I first started taking photos of PVs, I went on many visits with PVEC, but over the years things change. There are a great group of you youngsters out there enjoying the hobby and basically all friends as in a club, so enjoy it for as long as it may continue and contrary to some recent police bother, it is still a free country and photgraphing police vehicles is not an offence and shouldn't even warrant a stop. I know when I was a young copper, if someone wanted to take a photo, my only concern was whether my tie was on straight, but there, that's progress, so called for you.

CARRY ON WITH YOUR HOBBY

Hello there,

I suppose, my first answer would be no, as FLICKR doesn't give us that option.
The main problem is that as soon as anyone puts a photo on FLICKR or indeed anywhere on the net, it does open it up for unauthorised use.
If you allow downloading anyway, then that is the end of the matter as anyone can use the picture whenever. However, if you disable the downloading of pictures, it is relatively easy for someone to screengrab the photo. Apparently you can optically or digitally watermark a picture but that can be got over as well.
It reminds me of an old saying - If you put your head above the parapet, prepare to have it knocked off. What I am trying to say is that the only way to prevent anyone using a picture at any time is not to put it on in the first place, but at the end of the day, taking and displaying the pictures is our hobby and we get enjoyment from it.
What I can do is put in the group rules that photos owners should always be credited whenever possible.
Hope that helps, but I don't think there is a complete answer. I know, that I and many others in the group enjoy seeing your photos from the South West and bath so it would be a shame if you didn't want to carry on in the group

all the best

inspector_jericho posted a new topic:

There have been a few enquiries concerning what pictures are eligible to be included on the group.
Basically the group exists to have non-doctored photos that folks can save or use as they wish.
The obvious type of photo that is declined is one with any kind of watermark on, but there is another bit of doctoring that comes into that category and that is where a number plate has been erased for various reasons. My own view is that, unless there is a request from a Police officer not to show the registered number for security reasons, then there is no reason to obliterate it. and such photos will be declined unfortunately. I am sorry for this ruling and hope it doesn't offend anyone, but we need to be consistent.
The only other question raised it date marking. I haven't got any problem with this as it accurately depicts the age of the photo.
WELL DONE to all group members and any other contributors. What started as a group with an aim of 1000 photos now is in excess of 12k. Keeps 'em coming guys and gals

All the best
