It's would be hard to imagine a more badly-run contest than this turned out to be. Interesting that:

A) People working at the agency sponsoring the contest were allowed to enter.

B) The winner was someone able to take a picture standing practically in front of the National Archives building.

So have the postcard books been printed yet? I'm just wondering as I haven't heard anything and I know they said the winners will get one mailed to them.

Hi NARA,

No problem. It's long been understood that D.C. becomes inoperative when there is snow or ice of almost any quantity. :-) Just be safe!

Can you clarify something: Will the announcement now be made on Wednesday morning at 12:01 AM or Thursday morning at that time?

Thanks!

Due to some bad weather in the DC area, not all of our judges have had the chance to evaluate the photos. So we are postponing the judging of the photos for a few days. Winners will now be notified on Wednesday February 2, and the photos will be posted shortly after that.

Thank you again for your great submissions!

I just wanted to wish everyone who entered the best of luck in the competition. It has been really fun to follow along as the images were submitted, to check out what people were doing and to see what the contest meant to everyone.

I also want to thank the people at NARA for organizing the contest and for the incredible service they provide to our country every day.

No matter what happens with the judging this has been a wonderful and inspiring experience for me.

Thanks to you all.

Some things to try next:

Are there meaningful ways of doing this with documents?

Using an iPad, so you don't have to print out pictures.
