The Impossible Night (Impossible Film after Dark)

Come to the Dark Side, we have cookies. ;-)

The Impossible Night is a group for us Instant Film Loving Creatures of the Night.

Please show off and if so moved, explain your techniques for shooting the Impossible Project instant films at night for Polaroid Cameras.

This group is not associated with The Impossible Project, but we sure would love to hug all the folks who made this fascinating new treat for our hungry cameras!

Now with px 680 goodness!

Please limit your shots to night photography. Flash is okay, if it's not the only source of illumination on the shot.

Have Fun!

I havent tried peeling, but I have not gotten a true deep dark black tone either. My 100 FF night shots were a chocolate brown, and they havent shifted much in almost a year.

Are you storing the box vertically?

I have my night shots drying in silica and checked them this morning and the sky in my shot above is turning brown.

Have you guys found this to be true in large black areas?

I wonder if peeling would make a difference?

What have you guys experienced so far?

Here's what I did for this shot:

It was about 9PM PST and there is a street lamp just out of the frame to the left, but it was pretty dark.

I had my SX-70 on a tripod and had my ND pack filter in. I had forgotten to put my L/D wheel over to Dark (something I have to do in daylight for my Sonar), but it actually worked out just right. I hit the shutter, then used a big Mag-Lite with a very narrow beam to paint the scene (basically, some on the face, around the front wheel and then the tank.

Film ejected and I still put it in my light bag. It was nice and cool (55-60F) so I got some nice neutral tones.

Hi everyone,
We really have not used the discussion threads here, but it would be great to have a central place to refer folks interested in learning how to shoot Imposible film at night.

Feel free to cut and paste comments or discussions from night shots you like, and links to the Impossible photos being discussed.

Thanks Jetsetter!

I'll try to cover the light sensor to see if it give me a longer exposure. I used my sx/70 cable release on my 680 SE and got about a 1 second exposure. I didn't realize it sent an electric impulse to prompt the shutter.

Have a good one!

Light Meters and PX-100

I recently acquired a hand held light meter. The other night when I went out I used it to guesstimate my exposure times for my shots.

Anyone else used a light meter for Instant Film? (PX and beyond...) How accurate was it?

I like long exposures too...I find that if I cover the light sensor, it works well for keeping the shutter open. I haven;t tried it for really long exposures, like say over a minute. I can't live without my cable relase and my tripod cradle. My original model SX-70's are in much better condition than my Alpha Model 2...that model has a tripod bracket which is handy, but it needs some TLC.

Jeff, I don;t have a sonar SX-70 yet...but it's on my list! The night work I have done with my Spectra I have used the Sonar Auto Focus and it has worked really well! The other night I brought a flash light and used that to spot my focus range...it seemed to work okay.

Danchez, I think you can keep the shutter open if you cover the electronic eye. My Pack film cable release has a Bulb setting, but the cable for the SX70 is an electronic button, so i think it just sends an electric impulse once. Try covering the eye and see how long you can lock it open. How long of an exposure were you looking to do?
