"Need" a degree? Probably not. Good eye, equipment, working knowlege of that equipment, and some business sense--probably. May be able to cut corners by working for someone else though they may still want to see a portfolio and know what kind of equipment you currently own since the dSLRs do much of the work now days. Others cut corners even more by not getting licenses, permits, insurance, etc. They also may or may not have a plan if the get sued for messing up a shoot or just fail to pay others. Just think of the potential liability for screwing up a one-time event. If you get bored, curious, etc, check out the bio on Annie Leibovitz. She used to shoot for Rolling Stone Magazine as well as others. She has also had her own share of financial troubles. Before changing directions, you may want to consider the pay off or lack thereof. FYI, one well-known local casino photog I met got his start working on stage productions. The mod in this group also works in a casino, but he took his photography in another direction besides night club shooting. Both are examples of an "in" to even access the venues before actually taking photos.

Hi, so currently I'm in college but I want to turn to a new direction. I've been an enthusiast of photography since high school freshman year and I've live in Las Vegas for most of my life. Combining these two things I think it would be great to be a photographer for night clubs or for casino events. My questions are: Do I need a college degree to do this? Is this business hard to get into? By looking at my photography here in Flickr, do you guys think I'm capable of doing a good job? If there are any current nightclub photographers I would appreciate your advice and maybe tell me where to go for more info on this subject. Thanks.

Locally we call it Red Rock Canyon, similar to other Parks that do need permits..
