The top photo was taken sometime after 1956. The Volkswagen has a Braunschweig license plate, of the "new" series, which was introduced in 1956. I believe there was a transition period - not all plates were changed immediately.

The photo was taken before August 13 1961, since the Wall did not block traffic at the Brandenburg Gate.

The second photo has a VW with the same license plate, so it must have been the photographer's car.

Where was I?

Right, the top picture is of Brandenburg Gate in the distance. The center picture is of the Soviet War Memorial on the left and the bottom one is the Berlin Airlift Memorial.

Hallo zusammen,

anlässlich des 20ten Jubileums des Mauerfalls, ein bisschen Geschichtliches von mir.

Das ganze selbst mitzuerleben, wie eine Gesellschaft wieder vereint wird und Geschichte geschrieben wird, war etwas sehr bewegendes.

Anbei mein kleiner Beitrag dazu.
