lumiquest posted a reply:

Hi ... sorry for the slow reply, we have been at Photokina in Germany. The SoftBox III can be used on or off camera while the LTp is off camera only. Obviously you will get softer light with the LTp as it is larger but it's main purpose or benefit is that is fits in the lap top pocket of your camera bag and is to be used then returned to pocket, it is not designed to sit on flash or light stand for long periods of time. The III on the other hand, can be used on or off camera and can sit on a light stand all day, it too folds flat and fits anywhere in your bag. So ... it really depends on how you plan to use it as to which one suits your needs better. Hope this helps and let us know if you have further questions. Thanks!!
Just a note that the LTp is our heaviest SoftBox and it is not designed to sit on a light stand for any length of time, it is just too heavy. It was designed to fit in the pocket of your laptop bag or backpack, taken out and used when you need a softer light than the Softbox III, then laid down between uses. The UltraStrap and the extra piece of 6" Velcro do give it a bit more support. Hope this explains a bit. Thanks!!

Even when it isn't hot the LTP seems to droop.

On the video for the product he talks about how to pre-stress the the LTP prior to attaching the outer straps.

www.lumiquest.com/store/products/LumiQuest-SoftBox-LTp.html

Are you using the included adhesive Velcro or the Ultra strap?

It occurred to me that the sagging you may have is from the Velcro adhesive.

I have a Softbox iii and pocket bouncer and a quik bounce.

Been taking them for a run this weekend. I think I will always carry the pocket bouncer and quik bounce to weddings always. Intend to keep the quik bounce on permanently during a wedding I think.

I like how they fold flat and are light weight.

joshuadlynn posted a reply:

It never really occurred to me to put the LTP on the flash on the camera.

You could always tilt your flash up at an angle and still get many of the benefits of the larger surface area. But you already see the problem with the LTP on the flash. Does the flash drop down or does the LTP sag?

A bracket may help, in that it will certainly get the light higher. But you may find this to be a bit big and bulky.

LumiQuest does have other softbox products that are designed to be used on camera. Some are just smaller and another has a v notch at the bottom to allow the focus assist light to get by.

IMHO, you are using the product in a manner it was not primarily intended.

What is your intent and purpose for using the LTP?

If your primary need is for an on camera on axis light then any of the bounce products will be excellent choices. I'm a huge fan of the LumiQuest Quick Bounce for it's versatility and simplicity while delivering very nice results.

The Big bounce would be similar to the LTP but I find it too large for on camera work.

If you are interested in exploring other options off camera the LTP is an excellent product. The closer you get it to the subject the softer your light will be.

If your camera supports remote TTL triggering such as the Nikon CLS this is also a good way to play around and you need not acquire any new equipment.

To use it with a bracket you will need means of triggering the flash. A TTL sync cord is a very good option. May I suggest you get one anyway since they are not very expensive and will work weather you have a bracket or not. It will be an excellent way to test and play around with your LTP.

Obviously there are more options for remote triggering but not important now.

Here is how I use the LTP:
On a stand (6Ft from subject camera right high used as a key/fill)

Setup shot:

Up close: (inches from subject as a key light)

Setup Shot:
essentially hand held.

Both were triggered with PocketWizard Flex system but could have been triggered via any of the traditional solutions.

Hi everyone! I just got a late Christmas gift today. The Lumiquest Softbox LTP. It looks great and all but with it attached to my flash, I am unable to use my 18-55 lense. The bottom of the softbox is covering the top part of the lense and shows up in my pictures. If I try and tilt the flash up slightly, the weight of the softbox makes it drop back down. Other than buying a flash bracket, is there anyway to work around this? Thanks for any help!
