Actually some old studio flashes have high voltage plugs. I know because I read that one of the major problems with the YN RF602 or 603 was that the trigger had a 12v max and lots of triggers got sent to trigger heaven.

Thank you very much, what worried me was the 5V voltage warning PCSync output of studio flash elincrhorm d-lite 4 and that one of the receptors soured Odin.
Thanks..

No. You need an Odin Rx for that. (And an Odin compatible speedlite on the Odin Rx, too.)

HERSANBCN PHOTOGRAPHY posted a new topic:

I have a question, the Phottix Odin are compatible with studio flash elincrhorm d-lite 4.

According read in the manual studio flash reads:

Standard socket with 3.5 mm mini-jack (5).
NB Do not link ELINCHROM units by other manufacturers Cable to sync. outlets.
ELINCHROM use low voltage (5 V) for security reasons.

Thanks..

TQ for the post. I was playing with buddy's Odin and had this exact problem. Had to change to ttl mode first.
Reply to Odin out of sync

LayerMask posted a reply:

Hi, I don't shoot Sony, so if a Sony shooter or Phottix person shows up, please follow them and not me . . .

But in general start with both cam & speedlites in their factory default setups. For the cam body set it up as if it had simply a single TTL unit in its hot-shoe. ie. flash enabled but not with any wireless/off-cam functionality set (i.e. not WL). The Odins like to do all that (wireless/off-cam) stuff for themelves. Probably 'Fill-Flash' not 'Flash-Auto'.

Similarly, the remote speedlites need to be left in their most receptive state. So typically that means TTL but not controller nor remote. They 'think' that they are sitting directly in the cam's hot-shoe whereas really they are in their Odin Rx's hot-shoe. Ratio unset, no ADI.

The Odin devices must share a common channel number. The Odin Rxs may have differing Group letters.

I can't see any 'Odin for Sony' instructions on-line (only Canon & Nikon ones).

Edit: And, if I've made errors, please amend this thread with good info - for future Sony shooters!

Odin out of sync

aremera posted a new topic:

I’m a newie here following Phottix instructions and trying to use an Odin TCU connected to two Odin receivers with Sony F58 AM and Sony F42 AM on my Sony A900 in TTL format. When in camera aperture priority mode the TCU operates both flashes but the flashes don’t sync with the camera leading to a much underexposed image. If anyone has a similar setup, what flash setting do you use in camera menu – wireless flash or fill flash? (Presumably not 2nd curtain). Or is there some other setting in camera that I’m using incorrectly? Your help is very much appreciated.

Nope, the flashes don't need to be set to slave - they just need to be in TTL mode for the Odin receiver to be able to adjust the power output.

I'm guessing Kin Chan had the flash set to manual power instead of TTL.

LayerMask posted a reply:

Hi,
No, at least not in the sense that the Strato II driven light will not pulse (c 50KHz) as is implied by Canon's HSS or Nikon's FPSync.

As yet, Phottix do not even claim that an Odin driven version of the 'Early trigger Long burn' hack can work. It can, but there are so many variables outside their control that, so far, they have kept the possibility out of their documentation.

Using the simple 'fire now' sync out port on an Odin Rx (i.e. not its hot-shoe) goes most of the way towards emulating a Strato II Rx functionality (but it loses 'wake up'). With an Odin TCU set to HSS, both a Strato II Rx and a dumbed down Odin Rx will receive & respond to an early (HSS like) trigger signal. If any attached light has a sufficiently 'long burn' characteristic, then the hack may succeed. The other variable is the latency in the Rx & driven flash unit.

Elv has hinted that Phottix are about to announce some official extension of this functionality, but he's not giving anything away!
