NYT art writer, Michael Kimmelman has a nice piece today about the case for deep looking: quality time in front of a single work of art.

And then NY gallery owner Edward Winkleman writes in his blog about "slowing down to sketch" and suggesting something very much like SFMOMA Sketch Fridays.

I'd like to say thank you to SFMOMA/ Ian for starting Sketch Friday.
I'm a member and frequent visitor, but never ever sat with a pencil in a gallery until I accepted the facebook invitation to do so.
I don't think I felt like enough of an 'artist' to do such a thing... now I see that an eraser and an hour work well together.
