A Granny A Day

A group for nice people who love Granny Squares! A group for Granny Squares made by nice people! A crochet a-long or love-from-afar Granny fan club!

I f you are a maker, you don't have to make one EVERY day. But we'd all love to see the ones you do make. This group is for very beginners through to advanced! Put notes on your squares and links if you like - to help us learn more about how you did it, where you messed it up and things like that!

I am making one every day until the end of May (at least!!) Because I like to learn stuff and improve - and practise is the best way to improve!

If you are a Granny Square fan, rather than a crafter - be sure to leave notes of approval on your faves!

Join in if you would like!

Look for the Babette afghan pattern, which is what I think you're looking for. The pattern is available to buy from Interweave Press, though maybe you could figure it out just by looking at good pictures of it.

I am in the middle of crocheting many 4 inch grannies for an afghan, however, I do not want to just do strips. I have seen a few pics on here of afghans using different sizes of grannies and different sized groups of grannies. How do I figure out how big or small to make the groups or large grannies to make it work? Do I just block what I have finished and kind of guess from there or is there a formula to figure it out? I hope this question isn't too confusing? And I apologize if theres any crazy typing errors, I am using my phone for the web while my pc is down. Thanks.

I'm trying the random colors thing. I grab a few scraps and make a square then move on to the next. Maybe next time I'll go out and buy some yarn so I can make a planned color blanket.

craftymom72 posted a new topic:

Hi, I am Kim Luxich, aka The Colorful Bee. I am a wife of 17 years, Mother of 3, grandmother of 1. I'm a fulltime college student going for Medical Assiting. I learned to do the basic chain stitch when I was young, however, my Aunt who was teaching me (and the only one in the family who crocheted) passed away at he young age of 28. So, it wasn't until about 10 years later that I decieed to try and teach myself. I have been crocheting almost everyday for the last 18 years. I still don't know Alot of techniques but am not afraid to try them until I get them right. Granny squares used to scare me, because they looked so complicated. But recently I gave it a try and fell in love! Mainly because it's a very good way to rid of all those tiny bits of yarn thats been lurking around forever.
I have been looking through all the great photos here and am in awe... I absolutly love all the different types of grannies posted here. I never knew there were so many variations. Looks like I need to be pattern shopping since all of mine are just basic squares.
I really think I will love it here. Thanks for having me.

I think the beauty is in the wonkyness! I don't worry about guage as long as all the yarn is close in size and I know I'm doing the same amount of stitches, They'll line up and stretch a bit later when you join them. But I like messy!
