Announcing the 8th Annual 2012 Photoshare Photo Contest - a popular international event mobilizing amateur and professional photographers to share their photos for charitable and educational use.

Photoshare is an editorial photography collection available upon request and strictly for nonprofit educational use.

Photoshare's 2012 Photo Contest features the HIFA2015 Photography Award, spotlighting the critical role of Healthcare Providers. The contest leverages HIFA2015 as a key partner to further expand Photoshare's reach and impact among health professionals working to improve the availability and use of healthcare information in developing countries.

**Contest Mission**

Photoshare encourages those who are interested in Photoshare’s mission to participate in the contest. The contest is a great incentive for those who would otherwise share photos year-round but have trouble finding the time. If you are learning about Photoshare for the first time, you may be interested to know…

People who typically share photos with Photoshare – either through the contest or on an ongoing basis – are international public health professionals, community leaders and residents of developing countries, Peace Corps volunteers, world travelers, amateur and professional photographers, and anyone else interested in freely sharing photos as a way to promote awareness of global health and development issues.

Contest participants understand that when the contest is over, their entries are eligible for inclusion in the general Photoshare collection, upon which their photos may be requested for nonprofit, educational use promoting health and development. As always, requests to use Photoshare images are carefully screened by Photoshare staff (see Photoshare Terms of Use and Responsibilities of Photoshare Users for more information about Photoshare's policies on sharing photos). Photoshare provide a unique opportunity to monitor the use and impact of shared images.

Participation in the contest does NOT require you to forfeit your copyright.

Participating in the contest is a fun and rewarding way to support Photoshare’s global efforts in health and development photography, and to help build the Photoshare collection.

To follow on from the Human Rights Photo competition we ran a couple of years back we're running a competition with the theme 'The Right to Education'.

Entry is free to anyone in Australia and the main prize is a $500 Apple voucher. There are two categories - 18 and Over and Under 18. There is also a monthly prize, see the site for the August winners.

Guest judges include Nicholas Kristof (two time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and New York Times columnist) and Ann Curry (NBC Today Show news anchor). Common future. This theme can be widely interpreted and is open to Bangladesh based and international participants. The judges will look for relevance in terms of subject. Photographs which depict refugees, stateless people or excluded people or somehow depict the objective of inclusiveness and commonness of humanity will be favoured. Examples could be excluded people in Europe ( Roma), refugees in Africa, stateless people in former Soviet countries, the homeless, and images of exclusion from conflicts in the middle east (Palestine) etc.

GALLERY ASTIR brings together local artists, local businesses, and local non-profits by placing original artwork for sale on otherwise barren or aesthetically-neglected wallspace in offices and workplaces across Los Angeles. By uniting artists, businesses, and non-profits, GALLERY ASTIR seeks to promote beautification and social consciousness through fine art.

Local offices and workplaces are treated like galleries – our curators interact with local business owners in their workspaces and, after gaining appreciation of the taste and interests of the owners and their clientele, choose targeted work from our inventory to install and promote in spaces throughout the city.

As a typical gallery does, GALLERY ASTIR places artists’ work for sale on walls; at the same time, though, GALLERY ASTIR distinguishes itself by its studied choice of which walls and which artwork to bring together. That is to say, GALLERY ASTIR presents artwork in the very places its intended audience is most likely to see it. Unlike a typical gallery’s ongoing attempts to bring audience to artwork, GALLERY ASTIR, through its targeted and strategic placements, is able to reach a broader, a more regular, and, ultimately, a more-buying audience.

We are continuously reviewing work for inclusion in our curators’ inventory and our online catalog. At this time, we are exclusively seeking Los Angeles-based artists. If you qualify and wish us to consider your work (or if you'd like to be included in our mailing list so you know when we are expanding to your city), please adhere to the following:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

In a single email to astir@galleryastir.com, include:

(1) up to five samples of your work in jpeg format,

(2) your contact information, including local mailing address,

and any or all of the following:

· your bio;

· a Los Angeles-area non-profit whose work you support;

· (if you’d like a particular local business space considered for placement of your work), the name and contact info for that local business.

In the subject line of your email, write “SUBMISSION,“ followed by your name and current city of residence.

Please do not hesitate to ask for further information and pass this along to other artists that may be interested.
