The campground host, an old Nevada gold miner and army veteran named, what else, Bill, came out of his trailer the night we set up camp. I had just been hit in the head by an enormous moth (I thought it was a bat at the time) and then this half naked oldtimer with a scraggly white beard appeared. Quite surreal.

We had a nice chat the next morning, and I could kick myself for not asking for a picture.

We were camping at New Melones Lake and were fortunate to have this Bullock's Oriole come and visit us a few time, I think this is the first time I've seen one. They are amazing looking birds.

This "ball" is actually a California Quail. Didn't realize they were so round from the front, or maybe he is just too fat.
