The iconic symbol of Epcot at Disney World in Florida is the globe that is Spaceship Earth. Not the thrilling, heart-pumping ride that others in the park are but still a great ride since it's opening in 1985. The perfect greeting as you walk in and begin your day at Epcot...

Three bracketed photos were taken and combined with Photomatix to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS5.

Water-speed

All too often I think waterfalls get a blanket "slow shutter speed is better" categorization. Now, this is all well and good for those peaceful cascades in forests (where there really isn't enough light for a faster shutter speed at a clean ISO anyway!), but when it comes to powerful waterfalls, I think they lose something when reduced to smooth lines.

So lately I've been straying away from my auto-program instinct to shoot at a narrow aperture with ND filter, and seeing what speed I need to smooth the water but still show the motion. And I think this one worked out pretty well. This gushing waterfall on the west shore of Payette Lake was anything but calm, and still having those motion lines in there helps convey that feeling. Or at least I hope it does. What do you think?

An Evening Commute

I always find the Dublin to Sligo line to be one of the most beautiful train journeys in Ireland. A big part of that is because the line runs along the south bank of the Royal Canal for about half of the line's length. It has to be relaxing to commute home with a view like this out of your window.

The train that is almost lost between the greenery here is an Irish Rail Maynooth to Dublin to Commuter service worked by two class 29000 four-car DMUs with 29004 at the rear.

El término municipal de Piedralaves se encuentra situado en la vertiente sur de la sierra de Gredos en el valle del Tiétar y limita al norte con la localidad de Burgohondo y Navaluenga; al oeste con Casavieja; al este con La Adrada y al sur con La Iglesuela, éste último en Castilla-La Mancha.

The Beach Lighthouse (also known as the Lower Light) is a 44-foot (13 m) tall sandstone lighthouse situated in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England. The lighthouse was designed in 1839 by Decimus Burton and Capt H.M. Denham. Burton had been commissioned three years previously by Sir Peter Hesketh Fleetwood as the architect of the new town of Fleetwood. Unusual for a lighthouse, it is in neoclassical style with a square colonnaded base, square tower, and octagonal lantern and gallery.
The Lower Light stands on Fleetwood sea front and was built with its counterpart—the Upper Light, or Pharos Lighthouse—to provide a navigational guide to shipping entering the Wyre estuary. Together the lights provide a leading line when the Pharos Light is directly above that of the Lower Light. In turn they point to the Wyre Light on the North Wharf Bank, 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) offshore.
Both lighthouses were first illuminated 1 December 1840. Together they provide a range of about 12 nautical miles (22 km).
The Beach Lighthouse was designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage on 26 April 1950. The lighthouse is managed by the Port of Fleetwood. Info from Wikipedia.
