Per molt que hom estigui ficat dins una carota i vestit de ple per a la Patum infantil, és dificil deixar les xarxes socials del s. XXI!

Vestir tots i cadascun de les desenes de plens de les diverses tandes de Patum és una feinada. Cal dir que tot plegat sembla prou organitzat, en un espai tancat just sota la Plaça Sant Pere, escenari etern de La Patum. Per vestir un ple cal un munt de vidalba o ridorta (clematis vitalba), així com amortallar el cap del ple per protegir-lo de les explosions, la careta i finalment els 9 fuets que porta cadascun d'ells.

La Patum és la celebració més intensa i especial de Catalunya. Em falten paraules per poder-la descriure.

Per Corpus, el divendres toca Patum Infantil, veritable escola de patumaires, els quals porten la afició pintada a la cara i la passió per Patum a les venes!

Here's a mixture of XXI Century and the Middle Ages. This boy (or maybe girl, who knows) is going to be a "ple" in the Salt de Plens of La Patum de Berga. But being inside a mask and suit of a medieval character can't stop the use of the mobile phone!

This is the children's version (children's!) of the awesome Salt de Plens. This could be translated literaly as the "jump or dance of the fulls". It's suposed to be "full of fire". They are more or less demon like creatures, covered with a kind of grass and 9 firecrackers, 6 in the head and 3 in the tail. About 50-80 of them are distributed among the crowd, and fired! I've been several times in the Salt the Plens, and it's a really amazing. In the minutes before it begins I feel quite nervous and a bit frightened, and then there's that split second between the turning off the lights and firing the Plens. Then, the music, the fire, the smell of gunpowder and the adrenaline do the rest and you just jump and roll among the fire and smoke!

Here's a video of the adult version, look that intense second when the lights go out, before the fire covers the crowd (I've been there in the middle), and also look for about 3:35, when most of the firecrackers explode:

The Patum is a festival held in the Catalan town of Berga each year in Corpus Christi. It's a unique event in all over the World. It's so speciall that it's part of UNESCO World Heritage. It's origins are in the middle ages, although in its current form it dates from the last decades of the XIX Century. It beggins in wednesday of Corpus till sunday of Corpus.

Each year, there's also the Children's Patum, and they conduct most of the parts of the Patum with small versions of the adults figures, like the Àliga (Eagle), gegants (Giants), etc.

Emley Moor Transmitter Tower, aka ''the mast'', stands a similar height to the Eiffel Tower, and is a free standing concrete structure, and transmitted the analogue signal far and wide across Yorkshire before we went to digital. It is now used for diff. but similar purposes. The original mast collapsed in 1969 under the weight of ice, and crashed into the Chapel across the road, luckily no one was hurt.
It is very rural and beautiful up here, this shot taken from Emley Village last night as the sun set to the right of this shot, if a little breezy and exposed weather wise !!!
