I picked up a box of "junk cameras" a month or so ago and decided to finally take a look at them. One of them was this Minolta Hi-Matic AF2 35mm film camera. It looked to be in excellent condition and everything appeared to work, so I took it out for a test drive. It was kind of a gloomy looking day, so I loaded some fresh Kodak Ultramax 400.

The Minolta Hi-Matic AF2 is an autofocus camera which uses infrared for focusing. It also has a built in flash and an audible warning system when the flash is needed or too close to focus. It seems to do a pretty good job. I want to try it again when I have some nice light and better quality film. I wish I had some Portra 400 at the time, I would have used that. I will definitely run some more film thru this camera.

The exposure on this shot probably could have been dialed down a little bit, but I'm happy I got anything out of this "junk camera" :-)

This is a photo of my Minolta HI-MATIC AF2 Rangefinder. It is the first photo in a series that I'm doing on my camera equipement.

I found this camera one day at a local thrift store and purchased it for $8.99+tax. Its a great little Rangefinder.

Last summer there were a lot of Roma (formerly known as Gypsies) in our area, and the farmers staged a big protest against them one day in the big roundabout near the French entrance to CERN. I haven't seen any camps this summer. This issue is pretty charged in Europe -- my not-too-well-informed impression is that there is a mix of racism and legitimate concern about crime and property rights.

I forgot to upload the rest of the roll from the Hi-matic! This is another shot from the beach.

They have all-you-can-eat rolls available. When they come out with fresh ones, you raise your hand and they throw it across the restaurant to you.
