Lyrid Meteor showers night 6.

The camera was setup about 10 PM and took pictures until right before dawn. In the image there are two meteors that are visible.

The Lyrids (LYR) are a meteor shower lasting from April 16 to April 26 each year. The radiant of the meteor shower is located in the constellation Lyra, near this constellation's brightest star, Alpha Lyrae (proper name Vega); hence they are also called the Alpha Lyrids and sometimes the April Lyrids. Their peak is typically around April 22 each year. The source of the meteor shower is particles of dust shed in the cometary tail generated by the periodic Comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher. The Lyrids have been observed for the past 2600 years.

The image was captured with a canon T3i and a Tokina 11-16. F2.8 @ ISO 100 with a exposure of 35 seconds per shot. A total of 690 frames

Okean-O Satellite Passing Through the Milky Way

While out looking for Lyrids, I caught the Okean-O satellite passing "through" the heart of our galaxy. It flared brightly toward the end of the visible portion of its pass, just before disappearing into Earth's shadow. Had I not seen the pass with my naked eye, I probably would have mistaken this for a bright Lyrid meteor on later review.

Launched in 1999, Okean-O is a Ukrainian "heavy oceanographic research satellite using a side scanning radar, radiometer, and multispectral scanners to comprehensively study the surface and subsurface energy of the world ocean" (source).

A failed attempt at capturing the Lyrid Meteor Shower during the wee hours of April 22nd. The moon's too bright and it got quite cloudy which made it almost impossible to see the meteor shower. But oh well, at least some star trails were noticeable on this image.
