Some twelve years after Mk1 Class 66/7 No 66702 "Blue Lightening" was deilvered it is seen here at 7.54 AM passing through Blackburn for the first ever time. Luckily with angry looking skies in the background a brief gap in the clouds behind me allowed me to capture her on her bow for the town as she hurries past working 4F77 Roberts Rd- Fiddlers Ferry empties!

I read somewhere Uppsala has an Amsterdam vibe over it – probably because of the river and the many cyclists. But for me very different – the river is wild, almost like a rapid, while the cyclists are much more relaxed. Uppsala is a university city, and has for a long time been a center for intellectuals and science. The church in the background is the main Uppsala landmark building – the Uppsala Cathedral - the largest in Scandinavia with towers reaching 118.70 metres. I especially came to Uppsala to see the book treasury the "Silver bible" (Codex Argenteus), but very disappointing as a supposedly semi red day the library closed early. But as blue hour location Uppsala came out as a positive surprise.

Wikipedia: Uppsala (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈɵpːˈsɑːla]; older spelling Upsala) is the capital of Uppsala County and the fourth largest city of Sweden. It had 140,454 inhabitants in 2010. Located 71 km (44.1 miles) north of the capital Stockholm, it is also the seat of the Uppsala Municipality. Since 1164, Uppsala has been the ecclesiastical centre of Sweden, being the seat of the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden. Founded in 1477, Uppsala University is the oldest centre of higher education in Scandinavia.

) I’ve promised a library upload, since she’s a book lover! If you have time, please have a closer look at some of her beautiful photos and maybe also wish her Happy Birthday - English, German, French or Italian etc will work! I had no time to look closer at the books here, but found the history of the building quite interesting, in fact it has been a palace of the King of Holland, Louis Bonaparte.

History of the library: From the 12th to the 16th century, Utrecht was the intellectual and cultural centre of the northern Netherlands. It was the place to be for science and education, usually practised in connection with the church. The city was dominated by its many churches, monasteries and convents. The books and manuscripts from the churches, monasteries and convents were collected after a decree was issued by the Utrecht city fathers in 1581. In 1580, the city had chosen for the reformed religion, so the Catholic churches, monasteries and convents were closed down. A large part of the collections (approximately 550 to 600 manuscripts and books) were brought to the city library, which was to be officially founded in 1584. In 1636, the university was founded and the city library became university library as well. The library moved to this location on Wittevrouwenstraat in 1820, the former working-palace of Louis Bonaparte (his brother was the first Emperor of the French, Napoleon I, and his son was the last, Napoleon III), King of Holland. The building was designed by the famous Dutch architect Jan David Zocher. At that time, the number of printed works had grown to 10,000, but soon after the move the library began to prosper: around 1880, the library contained more than 100,000 books. The main library of Utrecht University is nowadays located on Heidelberglaan 3.

It's not often a Class 158 is seen with its fellow Class 159 builds at Exeter, but here at Waterloo Siding just north of the station, First Great Western owned 158763 seems quite at home with a pair of Southwest Trains owned Class 159s.

Wikipdia: The Netherlands Open Air Museum (Dutch: Nederlands Openluchtmuseum) is an open air museum and park located near Arnhem with antique houses, farms and factories from different parts of the Netherlands. The museum was founded in 1912 and is situated in the woods near Arnhem. The museum park is 44 hectares in area and includes buildings from various places and historical periods.

The city of Arnhem is famous for a battle that took place in WW2, an interesting trivia is that some citiziens of Arnhem were evacuated to live in the museum during a part of the war.

Beautiful start to a 6-day visit, sunny and very nice weather. All 3 warbirds were kept busy taking passengers on their flight of a lifetime! Barely enough time left after getting home at 7PM (early today!), having to be "back at the base" by 0800... but I'm not complaining!
