Torri del Benato lies in the north between the foothills of the Lombardian Alps, the Po valley and the Alpine foothills of the Trentino and Veneto regions. All the beauties of Italy seem to be concentrated here in Torri del Benaco next to Garda, the largest in lake in Italy. A town with history and art going back to the beginnings of civilization, a rich array of lake fauna, including rare specimens of fish, and flora ranging from typical mountain species to Mediterranean plants such as the olive, oleander, coastal pine and other vegetation thriving in its mild climate. Immersed in this green paradise is the town of Torri del Benaco, with its picturesque castle rising above and dominating the lake front. The historical centre is surrounded by medieval walls and towers. The vantage geographical position of Torri at the centre of the Lake Garda's Riviera degli Olivi, makes it not only a pleasant holiday spot but also an ideal starting-point for excursion to nearby places. A ferry service connects Torri to the western shore of the lake, facilitating rapid visits to all the shore centers. The choice of cruises on the lake by stearner or hydrofoil is vast. The towns of art of Verona and Mantova are at an hour's drive by car.

The main harbour of Torri del Benatoris typical of Lake Garda: small, attractive, filled with boats and lined with cafes. From the West Tower of the castle of Torri there is a magnificent view from the battlements over the little harbour and ancient roofs of Torri, as wellas almost the whole of the Lake Garda.

Vanaf de indrukwekkende Scaligeri burcht gezicht op Torri del Benaco. Zoals van zoveel stadjes aan het Gardameer is de geschiedenis een lange. Maar bij Torri is die al af te lezen aan de naam. Del Benaco duidt op de Latijnse naam van het Gardameer: Lacus Benacus. Het is overigens niet zo moeilijk om per boot naar Torri te komen. Hier ligt een autoveerhaven die enkele malen per dag wordt aangedaan door de veerboten naar Toscolano-Maderno aan de overkant. De oude haven is het middelpunt van het historisch centrum. Het is heerlijk om hier door straatjes en steegjes rond te dwalen en de mooie oude huizen en paleisjes te bewonderen.Wie gevoelig is voor sfeer en zijn ogen kan sluiten voor de onvermijdelijke toeristische verleidingen zal hier zeker genieten. Torri del Benaco is een uitstekend startpunt voor mooie tochten het achterland in, dus de Monte Baldo op, zowel per auto als te voet. De hellingen zijn voor het merendeel beplant met olijfbomen.De olijven moeten in de meeste gevallen met de hand geoogst worden omdat de hellingen zo steil zijn dat er geen gebruik gemaakt kan worden van machines. Geen wonder dus dat de olijfolie uit Torri del Benaco, en dan in het bijzonder de eerste koude persing van bijzonder goede kwaliteit is! Een fraaie fles olio extra vergine di oliva is dan ook een heerlijk souvenir om mee naar huis te nemen.

Le voyage se termine sur cette vision des dents rocheuses d'Okshornan, un blizzard de 8 heures s'abattra ensuite sur le nord de la Norvège jusqu'à notre décollage de l'aéroport de Bardufoss vers la France.
