It was interesting to meet the national bird of Uganda, in Thailand.
Pretty much like tourists from different nations run into each other.
That apart, this extremely striking bird is an endangered species today.
It does not migrate.
And it has this booming call which involves the inflation of that red sac below its throat.

Hippopotamus

Images of "yawning" hippos are fairly common -- but I particularly like the "sparkle" in this afternoon image of this wonderful creature.

The "yawn" is, in fact, not a yawn at all, but a threat display and passive defence mechanism.

This image was captured on the Chobe River, near Kasane, Northern Botswana, Southern Africa.

Yes, of course! We taste, not view Wine. But the views in the Barossa Valley, fine wine district not far from Adelaide, are stunningly fine, too. It's hard to choose among the very many excellent wines, and it's difficult, too, to select a photo for flickr.
Here's a photo of one of the smaller vineyards-wineries, that of the Kies family. They've been refining their wine-making since 1857. It was a great pleasure to taste their good vintages!

The best hike in all of California is the 3 mile trek up to Vernal Falls in Yosemite, even with all the people on the trail it is splendid each step of the way. A great hike for all ages bring snacks or have a picnic near the top. Go in spring or anytime and give thanks. I was hiking beyond that 3 mile spot about 5 coming around from going up to Nevada Falls to get this angle Look close at the top to see the little people it gives scale to this mighty cararact of snowmelt that joins with other steams to become the Merced River at the valley floor near Happy Isles at the trail head. Follow the rules and stay behind the rails its only dangerous if you ignore the park advice. Enjoy this view or keep on going to the top of Glacier Point or even Half Dome if you have a reservation for that. Enjoy nature and support your national parks. When Colonel Willliam Light (1786-1839) laid out his plans for the city of Adelaide in the late 1830s he took great care to have it surrounded by Parklands. He'd seen in Europe the unhealthy state of cities and he meant to have good air for Adelaide. Those Parklands are today still intact as is the Botanic Garden. Light had planned it, but it wasn't established until 1854 and first opened in 1857. It's a wonderful place (with really marvelous glass houses both 'traditional' and ultra-modern) and I quite forgot the time when I walked here, first in rain and then lit up now and then by sunrays between the showers.
Here are two now established 'foreigners' in South Australia. The European Honey Bee brought here by European settlers. And Tenerife Nightshade, Solanum vespertilio, endemic to the Canary Islands, but today an endangered species there and lovingly cared for in this Botanic Garden. Apis is collecting pollen from Solanum's Purple Platter. And the Sun came out to brighten this pretty scene.
