Following my day on the beach being bored to death by Snoozy Steve the evening didn't go much better.

Thursday we went for a walk along the coast. I don't mean a nice relaxing carefree amble, oh no, this was full on power walking - in flip flops!!

I tried so hard to find a mutual interest, something we both had in common. I failed.

I think it says something about my frame of mind, the fact that we walked for hours along the sea front with blue skies and waves lapping the shore, yet this is what I took for my photo of the day!!

Getting to the Galapagos Islands is an adventure in itself. Our trip involved:

- 2+ hour bus ride from downtown Quito the new airport
- 35 minute plane ride from Quito to Guayaquil
- 2.5 hours plane ride from Guayaquil to San Cristobal Island; arrival and clear customs at an extremely hot and humid open-air terminal
- bus ride to the pier
- zodiac boat ride to the ship which is anchored out in the harbor
- The ship visited 4 different islands in the Galapagos Archipelago during our stay.

Each time you go on an excursion from the ship it is by zodiac boat. Some landings are theoretically "dry landings" where the zodiac pulls up to a pier; other landings are "wet landings" where you wade from the zodiac to the shore. After day 2, almost every pair of shoes that I brought was wet and sandy.

Our first outing was an Interpretive Center on San Cristobal Island and a walk down to the beach which was inhabited by a few friendly sea lions. This one waved at us !

Low cloud and fog above the Empire State Building gave an almost eery feel. This is handheld and I think the street below really shows the true New York!

Looks less bad on black.

I went down to the Irthing river but it was full of dirty, fast flowing water. If flash floods hit the Starbucks factory, the resultant gushing latte would have been similar. Annoyingly the locations I had expected to use were under water, so this is all I could manage.

I've been using a little Ford Ka I've borrowed from my uncle. It is very nice of him, but this tiny vehicle does have some downsides. For a start, given I am 6'2", and this car is as small as they come, my driving position is slightly absurd. Imagine a giant Silverback Gorilla riding a child's tricycle and you'll get the picture.

Initially, it had some advantages. It is very simple and therefore none of the warning beeps and alarms that my last car had were in evidence. Partly, this is because none of the things that used to go wrong in my car even exist on this little one. But mostly the warning beeps are silent because it has no warning beeps. This was a drawback when I first picked it up and drove ten noisy miles into Carlisle. Well, it goes ok but its rattling and drafty I thought. And it turned out I'd gone the whole journey with the boot open.

It has been a busy weekend heading over the collect my daughter and back, cross country in the little car in the rain. So, I hope to become less behind tomorrow, and maybe even catch up by Friday (when I'll be off to Scotland in order to get behind again).

Last weekend some school children decorated one of the pedestrian bridges in downtown Des Moines with Earth Day banners. When I got there the wind was howling and it was starting to sleet. Kind of looks like the city hung their laundry out to dry.

April 18th. Uploaded on the 19th but taken late in my hotel room last night. Can you believe i took these socks with me especially to get the 365 shot in.

Despite being in the metropolis of Bristol, and having paid for Internet in the hotel, I could not upload yesterday and am now finally back home. I hope this is sleazy enough! Mono film effect from Snapseed. Off to take today's shot now.

For 365: The 2013 Edition -- 108/365

I wish I could say I planned to have that soft effect, but it's a benefit of the rain. We were on the flood plain last night and this is the worst flood here that I've ever seen. There are several fingers of Panther Creek that run through our village with nice little bridges over them to allow for walking around town. I think all of them were wiped out last night. There were people being evacuated on boats and by ambulance. Several houses suffered so much structural damage that they will have to be destroyed. Who knew water could be so deadly? We stopped down by one of the creek fingers now that it's starting to recede, but the rain is still falling. Her Highness was MOST unhappy that my husband did not bring her raincoat. We hope Mother Nature comes to her senses soon and gives us some sunshine. We are tired of rain! We are glad to live up on a hill, though!

My first "socks" shot for this week's theme. This is Anna sitting in my lap. I've used this Hipstamatic combination a number of times -- I like the vibrant colours with the Tinto tilt-shift effect.
