To be more precise... This happy reveler appears to be wearing a wimple, a one-piece article that covers her head, neck and shoulders. Wimples were worn by peasants back when and inspired nun's habits. But nun's habits almost universally replaced the wimple with three separate pieces -- a coif, that covered the top and sides of the head, a bandeau, that covered the forehead, and a guimpe, that covered the shoulders. Generally the bandeau and the guimpe were heavily starched. Remember in Goldfinger how Oddjob could throw his bowler at someone and the razor sharp brim would slice them in twain? Sister should be able to do that with her guimpe...

P.S. I know what I'm talking about here! In a dimension parallel to our own, I am Wink Monday, the First Male Nun™ (The Nun With The Gun.) And my eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be, but I'm pretty sure the nun in the photo has a gun as well...

P.P.S. Don't tell the young thing in the red bustier, but her coozie's fly is open...

HRH Issabbella wearing her embroidered coif at closing court of Kingdom A&S in Dragonslair, AS 45. I like the light and expression; focus is a little softer than I would have wished. The challenges of photos with a little point and shoot. (She's also wearing the beautiful silver chain and pomander gifted to her by HL Dirk the Gentle). Her doublet is satin with a raised pattern (you can see it on the hanging sleeve).

This aquamanile, in the form of a knight on horseback, would be filled with water through the top of the rider's helmet, and poured out through the spout on the forehead of the horse. Other examples of aquamaniles in the form of a horse and rider exist, including versions made from pottery. Those made from bronze were generally produced for wealthier clients, and the high quality of the craftsmanship of this piece confirms that it was probably a prestige item.

It was found in the River Tyne, near Hexham, at some point before 1853, when it was acquired by The British Museum.

Aquamanile in the form of an equestrian knight; copper alloy; the knight is firmly seated in the saddle and turns slightly to the lance side; the helmet is flat-topped with a trefoil in relief at the front and there is a slit for the eyes that ends in a trefoil; over protective mail is a surcoat engraved with alternating fleurs-de-lis and stars in a diamond pattern with cross-hatched lines; the bridle and breastband are in relief, and decorated with rosettes; the lance, shield, lid of helmet, feet of knight and horse's tail missing.

I really liked how this portrait came out...the lighting is lovely and it's a deceptively flattering angle!
