This is a perfect example of why you keep your eyes open when searching for foreground interest while composing a sunrise shot along the shores of Lake Erie...you never know what you might find! A cold windy morning...no clouds....hard direct late....you line up a nice piece of driftwood to give visual weight to the foreground.....look through the viewfinder.....wait what?? I'm not sure how or who carved this, but it sure got my attention on an otherwise uninteresting morning of shooting.

When the hour by hour forecast on weather dot com is way off and mother nature gives you lemons....what do you do? Well, considering i hadn't had an opportunity to shoot Lake Erie since the Spring of 2011 I attempted to make photographic lemonade. This was the only flash of color the entire morning, so i quickly stacked a .9 GND and a .6ND filter to bring out the details of the foreground. I really liked the transition where the frozen sand met the water.

Feeling homesick on a Memorial Day Weekend far from home and it seems as thought the signs are everywhere.....the clouds and reflections seem to be forming an arrow pointing the way to Cleveland; while that isn't exactly home it is a heck of a lot closer than here!! 59 days and counting. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to all those who have served, struggled, and sacrificed it all for our country.

It has been since September of last year that i had the opportunity to photograph a Lake Erie sunrise. Last Saturday during my current month long return home to Ohio i finally had that opportunity.... and the skies did not disappoint! Hope to catch at least one more before returning to India.

Finally....I am back from the Flickr dead. After more than 6 months without a post I am hoping to get back into the swing of things...with a backlog of images and comments to catch up on. I thought that this image would be a good one to start with, I am very happy to say that it was selected as the winner of the 2010 Lake Erie Living Magazine Photo Contest. lakeerieliving.com/Main/Articles/632.aspx This sunrise was taken along the shores of Lake Erie at Nickelplate Beach in Huron Ohio during a return trip home to Ohio in September of last year. Here's to staging a comeback....i look forward to sharing and viewing some wonderful images.

This image was taken on a surprisingly cold, windy, cloudless morning along the shores of Lake Erie. I just can't seem to hit it right this spring.....limited opportunities and an ever changing forecast hasn't been the best formula for great light and photos.

Unseasonably Warm...Definitely not what you would expect for a February morning along the shore of Lake Erie. Temperatures in the mid-30's...no ice on Lake Erie, and the warm golden glow of the morning sun. No complaints here....less layers of clothes...no gloves and the kind of light that just puts you in a good mood.

Kind of sums things up right now.....had one last chance to capture a Lake Erie sunrise last weekend , prior to returning to India. Now it is time to vacate a house that we have lived in for almost 2 years (needless to say there is a lot to do!!)....then a three part trip to Thailand.....followed by a two week hotel stay in Hyderabad...and then it is time to repatriate back to the US....61 days and counting.
