Instead of the old man and the sea ...here is a little boy looking for crabs in amoungst the rocks at the beach of Olympos and Cirali...love the colors of the late time in the day and storm rolling in clouds...with the sun reflection on them..

Çıralı is an agricultural village in the southwest of Turkey in Antalya Province. It is close to ancient ruins of Olympos and Chimaera permanent gas vents.

It is a very small rural village located just over an hours drive southwest from Antalya and boasts a beautiful 3.5 km secluded beach, the ruins of Olympos, the flames of the Chimaera / Yanartaş, as well as being a protected area by the WWF for the nesting of the Caretta or also known as the Loggerhead Sea Turtles.

Also nearby to Çıralı is the Ulupınar region, which is rich in rivers and creeks. Cirali / Çıralı is one of the last unspoilt natural areas along the Antalya coastline.

For the intrepid trekkers highlights of the Lycian Way with hidden paths are also found in Çıralı. One from Çıralı to Tekirova ( 19kms ) and another travels from Çıralı to Ulupınar and then back down to the flames of the Chimaera which is around 12 km. All these trails and paths are clearly marked in Red and White.

Another wonderful section of the Lycian Way ( Likya Yolu ) near to Çıralı is to the summit of Tahtalı Dag or as also know as Mt. Olympos . Located in the National Park of Olympos or Olimpos Bey Dağları Parkı.

There are no large hotels but numerous small places with accommodation, e.g., family run pensions.

Although close to Olympos it is not possible to drive between the road of Çıralı and the road to Olympos since they are separated by the beach and the ruins of Olympos.

Another view from the Acropol of the ancient city of Olympos...in Turkey

Love the wispy cloud formations against the blue sky..

Climbing up there which took maybe close to 20- 30 minutes...which was mostly a scramble up and over rocks almost straight up...with a few rest stops along the way ..LOL....I kept thinking how I am going to get down. ????

But once there you get an excellent view of the Cirali valley, the entire beach and ruins..

However coming down was much harder than going up...

sorry for adding so many photos today and yesterday but I just cant help myself with wanting to share so many of them with you :=))
Olympos of the Greek word/name "Ολυμπος". Olympos is a valley at the south coast of Turkey, 90 km southwest of Antalya city near the Town of Kemer.

The city was founded in the Hellenistic period, sharing its name with nearby Mount Olympos (Turkish: Tahtalı Dağı). Its coins date back to the 2nd century BC. The city became one of the six leading cities of the Lycian federation. In the 1st century BC, Olympos was invaded and settled by Cilician pirates. This ended in 78 BC, when the Roman commander Servilius Isaurieus added the city to the Roman Empire. The emperor Hadrian visited the city after which it took the name of Hadrianopolis for a period, in his honour.

Near Olympos, located in the neighbouring village of Çıralı and about 200 meters above sea level, the eternal flames called the Chimaera may be seen issuing from the ground. The fuel source for the flames is natural gas, largely methane, seeping through cracks in the earth. The mythical Chimaera - or Chimera - was a savage beast who sprouted fire from its mouth.

In the Middle Ages, Venetians, Genoese and Rhodians built two fortresses along the coast, but by the 15th century Olympos had been abandoned. Today the site attracts tourists, not only for the artifacts that can still be found (though fragmentary and widely scattered), but also for its scenic landscapes supporting wild grapevines, flowering oleander, bay trees, figs and pines.
Taurus Mountains (Arabic,جبال طوروس, Turkish: Toros Dağları) are a mountain range in southern Turkey, from which the Euphrates (Turkish: Fırat) and Tigris (Turkish: Dicle) descend into Syria and Iraq. The Manavgat River originates on its southern slopes.[1]

Demirkazık Summit in Niğde ProvinceThe system extends along a curve from Lake Eğirdir in the west to the upper reaches of the Euphrates and Tigris in the east. It has many peaks rising above 10,000–12,000 ft (3,000–3,700 m), with the highest point being the Demirkazık summit in the region known as Aladağlar, at 3,756 meters (12,322 ft.) high. Another notable peak is Medetsiz (3,524 m/11,561 ft) in the Bolkar Dağları section.

It divides the Mediterranean region of southern Turkey from the central Anatolian plateau.
The pass known in antiquity as the Cilician Gates crosses the range north of Tarsus, which was the birth place of Apostle Paul.
Karaburun's rocky elevations form the northern side of the Çirali beach and hide the Akbükü Bay from view.

Dunes have formed behind Çirali beach over thousands of years, starting at Karaburun to the north and extending to mount Musa to the south. These dunes stretch for some 3,200 meters (2 mi.) and are home to many indigenous plant species, not to mention the Caretta caretta sea turtles that come here to nest every year. In antiquity, boats used to be able to advance to the mouth of the creek. The dunes that have formed since then now block that entrance. Beginning in the 15th century and extending into the 1970s, the city seems to have taken refuge in the forest that eventually grew on the calm and quiet ruins.

Refections ( Yansıma ) at the entrance of Olympos...

My first attempts at HDR... I also like this possibly use of treatment because my end result is to enlarge these types of photos from framing..

I have downloaded the trail version of Photomatix....to try it out for awhile to see if I like it or not...sorry for the watermarks on the photos but this is just a test using HDR....I did take many bracketed photos over the weekend as the clouds and lighting seemed to be the perfect chance to test this out....

After trying out a few of these images in HDR I am now seriously considering this program ..because the effects are so cool especially on cloudy days to bring out colors and details etc.

This is a three exposure HDR image.

Do you like this version ??? I may invest in the program a little bit down the road..

High Dynamic Range (HDR) image using three photographs of the same scene taken under different exposures, and how to process the HDR image in order to reveal its details in highlights and shadows.

www.hdrsoft.com/

Took some well deserved time off for a boat trip that departed from the Cirali beach...here are a few of the photos..more to follow...have a super day....

Back to school soon and back to Antalya very soon !!!!

At the mouth of Olympos

Took some well deserved time off for a boat trip that departed from the Cirali beach...here are a few of the photos..more to follow...have a super day....

Back to school soon and back to Antalya very soon !!!!

As of yesterday afternoon a forest fire has blazed near to the village of Olympos, These are shots from earlier this morning...as the blaze is coming back undercontol..

Forest fires are common in Turkey as well as other Mediterranean countries during hot and arid summer months, sparked mostly by negligent.

The blaze in Antalya was one of 16 forest fires that erupted across Turkey in the past several days, Eroglu said, adding that all others were brought under control.
Kumluca'ya bağlı Yazır köyü yakınlarındaki turistik Olimpos mevkisi Karadiş Deresi Musa Dağı eteklerinde çıkan orman yangını da devam ediyor.

Dün akşam saatlerinde üç yönden kontrol altına alınan yangının, Musa Dağı'nın zirvesine doğru büyümeye devam ettiği bildirildi. Yangın yerleşim yerlerinden uzaklaştırıldı. 3 noktada kontrol altına alınan yangın 1 noktada ise etkisini sürdürüyor. Alevler Adrasan bölgesine doğru ilerliyor.

Orman İşletmesi yetkilileri, yangına, 1 helikopter, 22 arazöz, 2 iş makinesi, 100 işçi ile müdahale edildiğini kaydetti. Söndürme çalışmalarına jandarma ekiplerinin yanı sıra vatandaşların da destek verdiğini belirten yetkililer, yangında şu ana kadar zarar gören alan miktarının 40 hektar olduğunu açıkladı. Söndürme çalışmalarının, bölgeye ulaşım bulunmaması ve şiddetli rüzgar nedeniyle güçlükle sürdürüldüğü ifade edildi.

Kısmen kontrol altına alınan yangın nedeniyle bölgeye tatillerini geçirmeye gelen turistler bölgeyi boşaltmaya başladı... Jandarma, yoğun güvenlik önlemi alarak ormanlık alana geçiş noktalarını sivillere tamamen kapattı.

Yangının turistik tesis bulunan alanlara sıçrama ihtimaline karşı her türlü önlem alınırken, yangında bazı hayvanların ise yanarak can verdiği görüldü.

Antalya Marina ( Kaleiçi )

Antalya Yat Limanı

There was the old harbour, now a marina, encircled by the city walls. The harbour scene looked quite different by morning and by evening, each as beautiful as the other, with the light slowly flashing at the end of the breakwater, the sailing boats of all shapes and sizes, and the palm trees and date palms along the waterfront. It is no wonder that King Attalos II of Pergamum declared this spot to be heaven on earth when he first came here.

Antalya Port over the ramparts being built some 18 centuries ago, reaching said spot via wooden stairs being "guests" at the centuries' old "mansions" facing the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean and turning their back to the macadam paved streets of the Old City.

The Kaleiçi Marina which has won several awards is considered to be one of the loveliest marinas in Turkey. An extraordinary blend of ancient and modern environmental design with numerous plants, trees and exotic flowers.

The award-winning Antalya Kaleiçi Marina and Leisure Center is considered one of the loveliest marinas in Turkey. This center can well meet every tourist's need with its many souvenir shops, friendly cafes and restaurants as well as yacht moorings and services. Sail in the morning and enjoy the restful peace of the marina in the afternoon.

Düden Waterfalls are a group of waterfalls in the province of Antalya, Turkey. The waterfall, formed by the Düden River (one of the major rivers in southern Anatolia), is located 12 km north-east of Antalya; which ends, where the limpid waters of the Lower Düden Falls drop off a rocky cliff directly into the Mediterranean Sea in a dazzling show.

Lower Düden waterfall (named also: Karpuzkaldıran waterfall)

This waterfall is the highest as it is approx. 30 meters high and the water gushes down onto the massive rocks with great force. This waterfall is located in Antalya, near Lara, and can be reached with the old coast street as well.

******************************************************************************

*****************************************************************************

As you can see I have been busy and still taking photos..we took a day out to re-visit these falls..I have only seen them twice by boat but years ago..

The reason I joined flickr over a year ago was to share the lovely photos from my area..so once again I do apologize for my absence to flickr and hopefully over the winter months I can spend more time..but again love to share these nature and historical photos with everyone..

Do not feel obilagated to comment or invite..just enjoy !!!

Karpuzkaldıran Waterfalls

Oct 10, 2008 #330 on Explore...thank you all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the 11 yrs that I have been here I have never visited this castle until this past weekend ...awesome views from these castle walls above Cirali and Olympos

The Ceneviz castle ruins at Olympos.

Ceneviz Kalesi'nden Olympos......Olimpos'a gelip de Ceneviz Kalesi'ni, Yanartaşı ve ören yerleri görmeden dönmek olmaz.

My first attempt at HDR... any good ???

I have downloaded the trail version of Photomatix....to try it out for awhile to see if I like it or not...sorry for the watermarks on the photos but this is just a test using HDR....I did take many bracketed photos over the weekend as the clouds and lights seemed to be the perfect chance to test this out....

Auto-Exposure Bracketing (AEB), select the Continuous Shooting mode, make sure the camera is set to Aperture Priority, and select an exposure increment of +/-2.

you can also visit here for more info about HDR..

Hazy , lazy, summer days.....Took some well deserved time off for a boat trip that departed from the Cirali beach...here are a few of the photos..more to follow...have a super day....

Back to school soon and back to Antalya very soon !!!!

Çıralı is an agricultural village in the southwest of Turkey in Antalya Province. It is close to ancient ruins of Olympos and Chimaera permanent gas vents.

Kumluca'ya bağlı Yazır köyü yakınlarındaki turistik Olimpos mevkisi Karadiş Deresi Musa Dağı eteklerinde çıkan orman yangını da devam ediyor.

Dün akşam saatlerinde üç yönden kontrol altına alınan yangının, Musa Dağı'nın zirvesine doğru büyümeye devam ettiği bildirildi. Yangın yerleşim yerlerinden uzaklaştırıldı. 3 noktada kontrol altına alınan yangın 1 noktada ise etkisini sürdürüyor. Alevler Adrasan bölgesine doğru ilerliyor.

Orman İşletmesi yetkilileri, yangına, 1 helikopter, 22 arazöz, 2 iş makinesi, 100 işçi ile müdahale edildiğini kaydetti. Söndürme çalışmalarına jandarma ekiplerinin yanı sıra vatandaşların da destek verdiğini belirten yetkililer, yangında şu ana kadar zarar gören alan miktarının 40 hektar olduğunu açıkladı. Söndürme çalışmalarının, bölgeye ulaşım bulunmaması ve şiddetli rüzgar nedeniyle güçlükle sürdürüldüğü ifade edildi.

Kısmen kontrol altına alınan yangın nedeniyle bölgeye tatillerini geçirmeye gelen turistler bölgeyi boşaltmaya başladı... Jandarma, yoğun güvenlik önlemi alarak ormanlık alana geçiş noktalarını sivillere tamamen kapattı.

Yangının turistik tesis bulunan alanlara sıçrama ihtimaline karşı her türlü önlem alınırken, yangında bazı hayvanların ise yanarak can verdiği görüldü.
