Lilac season is kicking off around here. This is a specimen from the vast collection at Highland Park, begun by John Dunbar in 1892. The park was laid out by Frederick Law Olmstead and now has hundreds of varieties of lilacs. You can drive by on a warm spring evening and smell them from your car. Or, you can get out and photograph them.
