I found out after taking this that you can get in trouble with the law if you take someone's photo without their permission. Oh well :). Taken while navigating traffic in Kampala, Uganda.

Schoolhouse Stare

So unlike the typical white-people-in-Africa, we weren't challenged to a game of football (they call it soccer, silly), we were challenged to a game of Ultimate Frisbee. That's right, Frisbee. Before the showdown could occur, it started to rain so we took shelter in a nearby schoolroom. There were maybe 50-70 kids in the room and most of which were babbling excitedly. I found that to be one of the best times to switch to my 70-200mm lens and take some close-up shots of the children without becoming too much of an attention-magnet (which is what usually happens).

Most of the children in Uganda haven't yet learned the Muzungu (white people) way of smiling in snaps (photographs). This child is a pretty fair example of how a typical portrait will turn out if you don't say something to get him laughing. I like it.

I only had a split second to click the shutter once this gorilla had turned to look through the glass. GOT 'EM! These apes have such deep expressions, it's crazy to me

P.S. The title comes from an upcoming album for a band I really enjoy, the Avett brothers.
