It's a Copenhagen moment. It's style over speed. It's civilised urban cycling, as practiced for over a century.

And if anyone tells you need anything more than a bicycle to ride to work, they're probably just wanting to sell you something.

Bike Lane Snowplough - Cycling in Winter in Copenhagen

They were up early this morning, before the bike rush hour, to clear the bike lanes of snow.

While it is cool that we have snowploughs for our bike lanes, it's also important to remember that there are so many bikes that if the bike lanes weren't cleared, many people wouldn't ride. That would result in a massive shift of people from the bike lanes onto busses and trains, not to mention cars.

Imagine, wherever you're living, that all of a sudden tens of thousands of extra people [those would normally be on their bikes] suddenly appeared at busstops and train stations one morning. wanting to get on board. It would be chaos.

So the snowploughs are a necessity. They keep the city running because they let the people get to work on their bikes.

On this stretch, in the photo, there are 10,000 bikes per day, on average. That's a medium sized artery for bike traffic.

There are scores of bike designs aimed at getting our disable citizens onto the bike lanes. This one was one that I hadn't seen before. A tandem bike with double steering.

Here we have the city hall square on a summer's day. The spots are spray from a fountain behind me.

A bike path carves through the landscape and cars at a crossroads are the ones who have to give way and stop.

Part of the new Green Path - Grønne sti - that provides cyclists with a long shortcut through Copenhagen. A kind of ring route that serves to help cyclists avoid riding into the center of town if they don't need to.

Built largely on terrain once used by railways, the Green Path is a fantastic initiative.
