Big Rock Falls is not really the name of these falls. I saw no indication of a name anywhere near them but there are so many falls in the area it would not surprise me if this one fell through the cracks.

Sometimes when you are surrounded by big, beautiful water falls it is the little ones that really catch your attention. This was just a feeder steam into a small river but it really caught my eye.

Did some day hikes to waterfalls and found the many schrooms along the way just as beautiful as the falls. This little guy was less than an inch tall.

Just back from vacation. A week in the beautiful Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. Just as the title says, this is the view from the back porch of the cabin. Great view, thought I was going to die the first time I drove up the mountain road to the cabin.

Living in Florida, which is as flat as a pancake and at sea level, made every step at elevations ranging from three to six thousand feet an effort. I often wondered if I stopped to take pictures in order to catch my breath or because the entire area we visited in North Carolina was so beautiful that I needed to capture some of that beauty. I think it was the breathing!

A mushroom walks into a bar and orders a beer. The bartender looks him in the eye and says, "we don't serve your kind around here." The mushroom looks him right back in the eye and says "why not, I'm a fun guy."

North Carolina Lily

North Carolina seemed to be the lily capital of the south. Everywhere I went there were lilies. This one was at the entrance to the trail near the river the kids inner tubed down a million times.

Sorry, all the falls I saw in North Carolina, while beautiful, are starting to run together in my mind. I may need to change the name of this one once I check with others. Turns out to be Indian Creek Falls.

All I remember about Chimney is stairs, lots of stairs. They never seemed to end but the view at the top was spectacular. My wife tells me that the resort along Lake Lure is one of the locations used to film Dirty Dancing.

Through out the night different messages were spelled out using the luminaries. This was one of the first and was used as a silent procession, lead by a torch bearer and seen here as a streak across the right of the image, slowly made its way around the track.

Luminaries from a event my son and his friends were involved with. I was one of the chaperons but I can't complain, they are a great bunch of kids! For 18 hours at least one member of the team had to be walking on the track and while occasionally needed a little reminder they took the challenge seriously and did a great job. The event raised well over $60 thousand for the American Cancer Society. A long night but well worth it. Having lost my dad as a teen and my little sister when she was in her twenties to this insidious disease this is a cause close to my heart. I will certainly do it again next year.

Three inches of rain in the last three days have brought some much needed winter water to the area. This area of the Brooker Creek Preserve is usually bone dry this time of year. People not familiar with Florida weather typically don't know that we often suffer from drought conditions in the winter months and areas that are not irrigated tend to turn brown and fire risk climbs to dangerous levels.

Another image from the Glow. They were giving kids a thrill by lifting off about 10 feet into the air while tethered to the ground. Lots of squeals from the gondola!

Quick trip to Miami for some Cuban food and an 80th Birthday party, not necessarily in that order. Staying in Coral Cables where there is some great architecture but the City Hall really caught my eye.
