I drove to this location in the hope that with recent rains, there would be a sheen of water over this salt lake so that I could try to take some reflections of stars. Unfortunately, the water was all soaked into the ground which made it quite boggy in places but the stars were out for an hour before moonrise occurred. The lights are from the small town of Lochiel.

In the process of photographing each frame of this panel with light painting in between, I almost lost my boots which had submerged into the mud while standing there in the dark! It was a pretty grotty drive home lol

Apologies for the late info! This is an 8 shot stitched panorama of the beautiful Lake Bumbunga. In winter, it has a very thin layer of water which is fantastic for reflectiosn. In summer a baked salt lake surface with fissures and cracks reminiscent of the western USA (though I've never been there!). I love this weathered and beaten tank sitting in the middle of the lake. The water was not even ankle deep here. Technically, stitching was a problem due to the lack of features save for the horizon - I had to stitch using PTGUI control points on tiny trees in the hills zoomed right up.

Shifting Planks?

Over the easter weekend, I had a great time visiting the nearest salt lake to Adelaide (130km north of the city). The lake was pretty dry but a few hundred metres from the shore, I saw some planks lieing there as though they had been there for years. The trails they had made reminded me of those boulders in Death Valley (which I have yet to visit!) - I can't explain how these deepset planks would do this though!

Another image from a couple of weeks ago. Haven't seen as good a dawn on a weekend I've been out shooting since - Baby is tiring me out at the moment , so time for some sleep catch ups. Will try to catch up with everyone's work during the week.

In Search of a Monster

This weekend , I took a drive to Lochiel , 100km north of Adelaide where I had passed this lake many times. The lake is the site of an abandoned salt works and the fence in many parts is non existent. A short stroll from the national highway and I was walking on crusted salt covered by a thin sheen of water from the previous night's light rain. The pink hues of salt pans never cease to amaze me and the water added the tremendous bonus of the reflections.

The reason for the title is that I was looking for a series of half tyres someone had arranged here in the shape of Loch Ness monster. I didn't actually find the tyres but these scenes were more than enough to keep me occupied for the 45 minutes of good light.

Rusty Tank

Another version of the rusted tank I photographed on the sheen of Lake Bumbunga's wet surface. I've been trying a different approach to photographing scenes lately by making sure I take one image with plenty of headroom. I've submitted this one to Aus Photography magazine as well and will just have to wait and see how it goes!
