"Ice Plant" used all over California as an erosion prevention plant. It used to be everywhere when I was a kid growing up in S. California. Much of it has since been removed and replaced with native plants

I observed this guy for a long time sitting in a tree in a San Francisco Park. He had quite an audience gathered round him at one point. His own personal paparazzi. He preened for the cameras and showed everyone his best side. When the people finally dispersed, I silently told he had put on a good show but I would really like to see him in flight. A few minutes later he swooped out of the tree towards me and the turned and flew back towards his former roosting spot. Quite spectacular.
