Meh, not so much. This work of art by Nancy Rubins is on display in front of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and consists of 66 used aluminum boats, from canoes to jon boats and measures 60'x40'x40'. The piece is officially called Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Monochrome I, Built to Live Anywhere, at Home Here which, I find, quite long and boring.

Buffalo Central Terminal

The Buffalo Central Terminal opened to the public on June 22, 1929 and closed in 1979. Built by the New York Central Railroad and designed by architects Alfred T. Fellheimer & Steward Wagner, the art deco style station was built to accommodate up to 3200 passengers per hour, or 200 trains per day. The complex consists of the main concourse, a 17 story office tower, a four story baggage building and two story mail building along Curtiss Street, and the now detached train concourse. The complex sits on a 17 acre site 2.5 miles east of downtown Buffalo.

After years of abandonment, it is in derelict condition, but is now owned by the non-profit preservation group Central Terminal Restoration Corporation.

I ventured downtown today to get a look at the renovations going on inside the historic Statler Towers. I wasn’t sure if I’d be allowed to photograph the interior due to all the construction work going on. Not long after I walked in I was met by the current owner and developer Mark Croce. He couldn’t have been nicer. He saw my gear slung over my shoulder and asked if I worked for anyone (media). I told him no but gave him my card anyway. He told me to have a look around and take as many pics as I wanted.

I’m looking forward to going back once she reopens to get some “after” shots.

Formerly BCE Place is an office complex in Downtown Toronto comprising a 5.2 acre block bounded by Yonge Street to the east, Wellington Street West to the north, Bay Street to the west, and Front Street to the south. The complex contains 2.6 million sq ft of office space and consists of two towers, the Bay Wellington Tower and the TD Canada Trust Tower and is linked by the six-story Allen Lambert Galleria. Brookfield Place is also the home of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Note: Be on the lookout for the tripod police. They tell you (politely, of course) that they’re not allowed. I obliged them and walked away but then circled back and snapped off a few when they weren’t looking. ;-)

That Night In Toronto

Just got back from a week in Oakville, ON for work. On Tuesday I took a drive into downtown and hopped the ferry over to Centre Island to get some shots of the skyline. It was a beautiful, warm night and as an added bonus, the Jays were at home and the dome was open.

Federal Courthouse - Buffalo, NY

Originally set for completion in 2010, the new federal courthouse in downtown Buffalo has been beset by a series of construction delays brought about by issues-- the latest of which -- has cast a cloud of uncertainty over its latest projected completion date in August. Although expected to be opened by July 2010, construction of the building had been held back a year following concerns regarding the glass panel façade and a mold problem. Federal officials hope to have the courthouse opened by December 2011, the third time the date has been pushed back. Upon completion, the building will be the most expensive government building in the history of Western New York.
