325/365: give me a sound

nyah74 posted a photo:

You can’t imagine how uneasy I feel when I have to work in this room which once belonged to sultan mistresses. I am not scared of anything superficial or dark, but this room gives me the creeps. There is some sort of disturbing energy that I can’t quite describe in there. I am so glad this section’s controls are finished today.

The rest of my day was good. It was amazing to walk under the rain without an umbrella, watching the sky that was exactly the same bluish grey colour of his eyes. It was raining cats and dogs. I was as wet as a rat when I made it to the ferry. The captain looked at me like I am a poor puppy and asked me to sit at the benches outside under the tent, because I’d wet the precious ferry seats otherwise. I didn’t argue. I never sit inside with the crowd anyway even when it’s winter. Hmmmph! :p

I need to get ready now! Have a great weekend flickr :)

290/365: forest witch

When I want to hide in my cardigan and not see anyone and have the unstoppable urge to eat limitless candy, potato-chips and a bucket of chocolate ice-cream, it means it’s time I pull myself together, because otherwise i'll just eat all those junk and feel even worse after it. So, although I wanted to go out tonight, I just decided to stay home, have a talk with myself and the ceiling and also do some meditation. I’ve been lacking something I can’t quite describe since last weekend and it screws my daily life.

Now it’s time for a meditative, warm bath with candles and all the gear and silence followed by a quality sleep.

So, have a great weekend Flickr! ;)

I was in Mecidiye Kiosk’s warehouses for project controls and I can tell Italians have no idea about building surveys and drawing restoration projects or they are just lazy. They annoyed me all day with their terrible engraving drawings…
or I was uneasy for some other reason which I can’t quite describe.

This is one of the very very minimal mirrors of the palace. ( i am not joking, it literally is minimal compared to the others) It’s thrown in a warehouse with other amazing items like chandeliers, carpets, oil portraits of sultans, crazy furniture, clothes etc. The whole place is like a theatre backstage. It’s a little disturbing thou. Especially the mirrors are… Somehow it doesn’t feel right to look at the dead people’s mirrors. You may wonder why I made a photo if that disturbs me… well, I have a tendency to do the things that disturb me and put a swoosh next to them.

Random Fact: I think I did something wrong.

236/365: ashtray girl

nyah74 posted a photo:

I woke up and watched him sleep peacefully. I never understood people crying because of happiness, but now I know. My skin never felt this right before. I felt perfectly calm, peaceful and completed and all of a sudden tears filled my eyes. Not that I was sad, it was the joy of making someone I really care about happy and actually being able to see it solid.

I am not a crybaby, so I hid my face between his head and shoulder... not to be misunderstood. I smelled him untill he woke up. Then I let him leave. It was a wise decision as I'd not be able to let his hands go, if he stayed an another minute more. I never cry when saying good-bye. I didn't cry. He left and I jumped in the shower to keep on not crying. I put on my clothes, made make up and met Sec to enjoy the rest of the city.

Random Fact: I like the song "this picture" from Placebo. Hence the title.

I hold an image of the ashtray girl
Of cigarette burns on my chest
I wrote a poem that described her world
And put our friendship to the test
And late at night
Whilst on all fours
She used to watch me kiss the floor
What's wrong with this picture?
What's wrong with this picture?

Farewell the ashtray girl
Forbidden snowflake
Beware this troubled world
Watch out for earthquakes
Goodbye to open sores
To broken semaphore
You know we miss her
We miss her picture

Sometimes it's fated
(We) Disintegrated it
For fear of growing old
Sometimes it's fated
(We) Assassinated it
For fear of growing old

Farewell the ashtray girl
Angelic fruitcake
Beware this troubled world
Control your intake
Goodbye to open sores
Goodbye and furthermore
You know we miss her

I think I made a mistake by not mentioning the stress on the yesterday's random fact was actually on " I am brave enough..." , not the "...I need sex." bit of the sentence, which means it's not any sort of invitation for anyone or an advert. :)
Sorry guys... I am still thinking about someone...

I had to give this explanation as I got a bunch of e-mails from kind, benevolent people :)

I swear it would be easier to get naked and get in that chamber instead of placing myself in it using photoshop!!!

Random Fact: You can tell I am stupid.
Random Fact II: I decided to keep track of the days untill I do my time. So, I did a month and 17 is left.

Interestingness Achives #362 - June 21st.

So I decided to take a walk with my heels in the medieval streets of Coventry which means this is a choke. I couldn't find any interesting ideas today :)

I think I forgot to tell flickrland that I am unemployed since Wednesday :) Awesome!
I believe I did the right thing.
So eventually, I'll have to improve my portfolio. I have a meeting in the last week of June for a job in Germany. I am dying to have it.

Random Fact: I feel good.
Random Fact II: My German pronounciation is gay :)

Ok I cheated again… This photo is not taken today as I am not in Birmingham :) however i want it to be in my book for certain reasons.
here is a link to the building
www.flickr.com/photos/nyah74/2229851001/

*First of all, this is sort of a thanks to Mike for being there whenever I need.
So, thanks a lot for making me have such a great time (although i wasn’t able to reflect it much) by taking me to places, just for me to take photos and for the information you provided about architecture and almost about everything (it quite amazes me a non-architect knows about architecture this much), being so generous and finally thanks for helping with the code yesterday and fixing things in 20 minutes which would probably take ages for me to figure out :) You are like the elder brother I always wanted to have.

*Secondly this is a great photo taken by my best mate Sec and it so should be in the book for design purposes.

*And finally after all the reds and greens, it’s time for a blue in the batch ;)

Random Fact: I was already planning to do a selfie with Foxy, so it’s not like a bribe or reward for his help for the coding. :)
Random Fact II: I’d like to upload a photo of us in “ Another Place”- Liverpool (which should be visited by everyone), but it was so windy that we both look horrible :)
317/365: boo!.. no?

I was at the palace again and heaven knows when was the last time a human being was in the room, I am working at the moment. Dust, dirt, bugs, etc. and of course I ended up looking like a coal-miner again. I tried to clean a bit, but…

I was walking home, shuffle on, listening to my music. Sometimes, some songs put me into a trance sort of state and I was in a similar state when I heard someone calling my name. I couldn’t recognise. So, I am looking at him, he is looking at me… Then he smiled and said “ you didn’t recognise me, did you?”… I recognised his face but could not remember his name or where I know him from. I was thinking, high school? No… university? No… summer house? No… then there was a flash and thanks to god it came to me. Gym, I know him from the gym… he is the guy who introduced himself kindly after staring at me for nearly 1,5 years which I never understood as I looked like a true sweaty, potato bag with awful hair, no make-up, shabby old clothes and a sulky face all that time.

After working in the dusty place I was in all day, my appearance surely was no different. I understood when he asked me if I fell or something :) we laughed when I told him what I do for a living and we talked some more and when i was about to leave, he said my eyes are still something that he can look at forever… I smiled unintentionally and he added my smile also is…
I am not the type that knows how to take compliments and stuff, but it felt really good this time.
So, thank you boy, from the gym :) and sorry for...

Another shot from the dorms of sultan wives. This room also got its share from wrong restoration. The chemicals that are applied on the ceilings paintings, engravings and tiles completely demolished them as you can see a sample under the windows. This room is also full of cariyes’(sultan’s mistress) furniture and belongings which are the most amazing ornaments I’ve ever seen and left in this room to decay between damp walls.

I suppose because of the light, I look old in this photo, but ha! I think I’ll look ok even when I am old. So, I don’t have a problem with this one :) and I wanted you guys to see the revzens (colourful glass embedded in gypsum/wood) which is more or less like stained glass/vitrail, but a total pain to make as they needed serious craftsmanship.(do this word exist or did i make it up? :p)
I was at the dorms of wifes(wives?) and mistresses of sultans in topkapi palace today and the energy was just weird there. There are about 100 empty rooms in this section and rooms that are stacked with these women's belongings. I wanted to cry when I thought about their sad lives. Some were killed by the women who were jealous of them. Some killed themselves because they couldn't take a life in a golden cage and sharing their man and the games. I tried to finish my job quickly to get out of there immediately, but I want to remember this room. So here is the picture for my book.

Go on complain about the stone bit where my cam was put :)

302/365: with the seraphine angel

so, here I am at the top of the scaffolding you see below and the angel face that's been hidden for about 200 years is right next to me. There are 4 of them on the pendentives (the face is behind that gold painted locket between the wings) and only one is exposed to day light at the moment. It can be seen when the scaffolding is removed. However they only look pea size from ground level. So I am really lucky :)

The angel faces were covered when the place was used as a mosque. However they didn't cover or demolish chris crosses. I believe the reason for the faces to be covered is that, there are no paintings, reliefs, icons or mosaics of the prophet and holy people as Muslims believed, people would start praying to those icons instead of God.

I spent half of my day wandering around the rooftops (dome-tops and vault-tops would be more appropriate) of Hagia Sophia and taking photos. We went there to see the mosaic angel face that’s been newly exposed (not to tourists yet, unfortunately) after being hidden under a locket for about 200 years. So, all we need to do was to take the elevator of the scaffolding in the restoration site and go up, but we just got lucky and got out to the roofs from the gallery, because we had to check the lighting design project.

Then we started jumping from this vault to that vault and climbing to dangling iron ladders. I am not scared of heights, but it really wasn't a good idea to look down when I was on one of those ladders probably about 40m high from ground level. I don’t recall grabbing something that tight :) Then we got in one of the massive buttresses with a secret passage and staircase. Then more jumping over the domes and vaults and we reached the main dome with the most delicate corridor at the tambour and I took about 1oo photos which you will see shortly :p
Hopefully I will see the angel face tomorrow! It was too dark to go upstairs when we were finished at the rooftops.

I was so dirty when I got home that mom asked if I really work as an architect with eyes wide open, because I looked more like a coal-miner…

I’ve been really uneasy since I started reading this book, I’ve typed about 2 days ago. It’s a not a bad book. However, sometimes I can’t take to face the reality in such a harsh way and this is one of those times. It even made me cry, because there was this very same sentence about me being rootless and roofless in it and the character who talked about the issue is me. It is very scary to read his past, his very same past as mine, his sentences… his way of using words, in the exact same order as i use my words and his current situation. I don’t like to leave unfinished work, but I don’t dare to read his future… so I guess it’s time I stop reading this book.

Sorry, I'll try to make something colourful tomorrow! Promise :)

Dear Flickr,

Although I look like a true potato with my real shabby outfit (I'm glad at least my etnies sk8a boi sneakers are not in the photo), dirt on my knees and awesome hair (thanks to the wind) I'll just use this image because this is one of the 100 spots that you'd not be able to visit if you are a tourist in Topkapi Palace. So, you have all the rights to be jealous, because I'd be if I were you :)
This is the roof top of the dorm of the halberdiers with tresses (if that makes sense :p) The place is like a tiny village with a turkish bath, kitchen, dorms, a mosque, a large room to smoke weed (yes weed and other stuff that would make you high) with about 50-60 10cm wide cupboards for their long pipe-sticks. So, I had a good day. It was fun to climb and jump from here to there like a spoiled kid :)

Random Fact: This is my Gap cardigan and I love and live in this nowadays like my Gap hoodie which I had to throw away becoz of Sec's and mom's blah blah about its being old. I love Gap creating stuff that I can live in :)))

226/365: royal lunch

I am tired and I need a warm bath and a back massage and put to sleep with care :) ohh I also need to be fed!

That witch woman manage to make it to work today and sort of ordered me to go, check the restorations projects of Imperial Kitchens in Topkapi Palace with her. It’s ok since I like to be out of the office 1-2 days in a week, but it’s too tiresome and she doesn’t let me eat proper lunch since she doesn’t eat and we always are in a hurry. So, this is my lunch which I shared with the cats and ants of the palace courtyard . A terrible royal toast and coffee in a royal paper cup :)

Random Fact: My bite size looks funny. Never noticed that before :)

212/365: crazy person counting the leaves on the paintings

I won't complain today for a change...I was at the palace again, but in a different section. The room you see in this picture is called *the fruit chamber* and is a sample of *ottoman baroque. It is a part of *Harem (insert joke here) which wasn't allowed to tourists. So, I was in the room all day, checking if the building survey drawings were correct by counting the engravings, paintings and wood carvings behind the bars which made me look like a monkey in the cage as the curious tourists were on the other side of the bars trying to see if I am crazy.

An Italian woman caused trouble untill I managed to calm her down to tell that I am working and that's the only reason I am allowed in the chamber. It's unbeliavable how Italians and Turks are alike in these kind of situations. It must be the hot blood :)
