The Cobb

Taken back in March on a whistle stop visit to Dorset. I'd taken a couple of days off around spring tide, really to go and get some shots of the Cobb. Hadn't quite figured on the tides so ended up leaving at 2am to get the highest tide of the year at 7am which should have just coincided with sun rise. However best laid plans and all that, driving down the M3 I hit a wall of fog, which persisted all the way to Lyme Regis, in fact all the way to the Cobb and beyond. I got a few shots but my camera was soaking, so headed for a wander round Lyme Regis to return when the fog had lifted - it didn't really. This is taken at about 11am that morning with the fog still persisting but you could see the end of the dock. Chatting to one of the locals, this years high tide was nowhere near as high as it should have been, so planning to head back in the autumn sometime.

As for the Cobb, its the most wonderful shape - and yes I know its been taken from every single angle, but its such a draw you have to take the shot. This is probably the best of the bunch and surprisingly very little processing for once.

Concrete Giant

2 days of thick fog, I really had to make the most of it. This from below the Orwell Bridge - which I've shot a few times before. It really is a brute of a structure and possibly not the most photogenic bridge in the world. I arrived and it was too foggy to get the bridge disappearing into the mist partly because of the size of it and partly because it was pretty much enveloped as a whole. This did catch my eye though as the concrete was sopping wet and created a nice follow through reflection of the road itself.

I find myself much more comfortable taking shots like this than of country scenes in the last couple of shots, don't know why, but I just knew exactly the shots I wanted once I'd arrived, where as the previous two posts I used more of a scatter gun approach until I got something that was acceptable, just couldn't see the shot immediately - strange

Continuing with the foggy theme for a while here's one from just down the road from where I live. Not my normal style but had to get out and make the most of the fog while it was there.

First of all thanks very much for all of the comments, favs and views I have had for my last foggy pier shots. The first one has now had 30,000+ views - I've no idea why - I just think flickr has gone berserk.

Still have more foggy pier shots but I think I'll post something a little different from me, still on the foggy theme and actually from earlier the same day. This is Honing Long Lane, near Witton Woods in Norfolk. Had taken the dog for a walk and the fog was so thick all around I had to get out with the camera. I wandered down the road and just liked the way the trees enveloped the scene.
