Another shot of the Maltese Falcon, this time in slightly baked HDR. I was on my way to Angel Island to go hiking and photograph the fire, but I missed the boat. This gem was sitting in the harbor so I photographed it, but unfortunately it was a cloudy day and I didn't have all my lenses with me so I'll probably go back and photograph it again before it sets sail.

I've been going hard on the tilt shift action, but today I took a break from that to do some good old 10mm HDR. I had just gone to Westfield yesterday and admired how well it would work in 10mm, so that was where I headed today. I was happy to not be hassled a single time by security, though not having my tripod with me may have helped me evade the LEOs.

This was taken on by holding my camera on a hand-rail while rolling through 5 exposures ranging -2 to +2. This was an overcast day which allowed for a mix of natural and artificial light, creating the warm/cool contrast. I used a polarizer to bring contrast to the reflections.

I produced a 16-bit TIFF by running the 5 shots through the Photomatix details enhancer with these settings, which are close to how I do many of my shots:
* Strength: 79
* Saturation: 79
* Luminance: 10
* White Clip: 3.2
* Black Clip: .43
* Smoothing: Medium
* Microcontrast: 5
* Microsmoothing: 3
* Gamma 1.49

In Photoshop I did minor shadow/highlight and curve correction, then added luminance sharpening for high-resolution detail enhancement.

While out taking photos on my block tonight, playing with some new tricks, I got a chance to take some trailed light photos. What really happened is a car interrupted my HDR set, but hey, you take those lemons and paint them gold.

As with most tilt-shift images, the details are best viewed large on black.

That's a reflection of a tree behind the rear wheel, not a dent.
