In the stillness of the moning I took some time to enjoy the first light in Pulau Duyong. I simply love the squeaking sound caused by the movement of the wooden planks against nails as the smooth wave passes under the riverside dock. There are no other sounds as I soak in the stillness of the morning. Even the traffic sounds are distant. It is a reverent, hushed kind of peace that is too easy to miss if you don’t take the time to sit still long enough for it to find you. And I realize that in my innermost being, this sense of peace, such as I experienced this morning, is what I long for. It is what we all long for.
A Prayer for Japan: Swaying Grass Dance (DSC2910)

Like the River Jumpers Inc, even the swaying grass are dancing happily along the river...

As I was quietly strolling along the river I realised how we are so blessed with the abundance of peace and harmony and yet I'm so sad for the people of Japan, because of the recent tsunami. My prayers to all of you.

O loving God, to stand before You is to abide forever.
Grant us, dear God, in all our duties, Your help;
in all our uncertainties, Your guidance;
in all our dangers, Your protection;
and in all our sorrows, Your peace.
This day we lift up to You the people of Japan.
Give them courage in this time of tumult,
give them comfort where they are broken and grieving,
surround them with Your love and grace.

Note: This is the start of a new series of shots which I took while trekking the banks of the Terengganu River and as a reminder to those in power, whatever you do in the name of progress please do so without spoiling this beautiful life that we have along the river.
Sigh, doing action shots with a manual focus tele is such a pain, but it was fun.

I grew up in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan (i.e in the west coast of Malaysia) I have always lived within walking distance from the ocean. First in Port Dickson where the beach was barely 10 minutes walk away and my mother had a house in Batu Empat, Port Dickson. Lots of time was spent there as a child. As a result, the ocean sights, sounds, and smells bring peace to my soul.

Now ever since 1980 I've settled down in Terengganu which is in the east coast of Malaysia. And we are barely 10 minutes walk to the beach, again. I don't think I could ever live too long in a non-beached town, and an afternoon spent by the ocean is always wonderful! I think my youngest daughter Zahirah (she's 16 months old now) agrees.. because she just would not get out of the water even when it's getting late.

The art of weaving with the leaves of the pandanus or also known as the thatch screwpine tree, is pivotal to the history of the Terengganu people, with everything from thatched floor mats, baskets to traditional thatch wall panels being made in this fashion.
The weather's been great this past few weeks thus we can see people flying kites by the beach.

Though not much of a shed if you consider the scale of the monsoons we get annually, however it serves more as a half-done-garage for fishermen to hang their fish nets. Despite the humbleness of things that you can find by the beach, let us not forget that it is the sea which gives the fishermen life. Likewise, the sea gives new life to some of our depressed spirits.

LARGER
The mission of the supermarket, like everything in our modern culture, is supposedly dedicated to one end: choice. Sad to say it is not so much for your choice; rather it is the retailer's. It turns out that each inch of space is scientifically calibrated to hold only what you will buy at the highest possible margin. Consumer attention is "malleable," according to some researchers who investigated "space elasticity," and whose study sought to "parameterise a model that allows us to compute an upward bound on the returns that might accrue to an 'optimal' shelf set."

On the other hand, here I've compiled the 10 interesting games you can play in a supermarket:

1. Take shopping carts for the express purpose of filling them and stranding them at strategic locations.
2. Ride those little electronic cars at the front of the store.
3. Set all the alarm clocks to go off at ten minute intervals throughout the day.
4. When someone asks if you need help, begin to cry and ask, "Why won't you people just leave me alone?"
5. Play with the automatic doors.
6. As the cashier runs your purchases over the scanner, look mesmerized and say, "Wow. Magic!"
7. Try on bras over top of your clothes.
8. Get boxes of Condoms and randomly put them in peoples carts when they don't realize it.
10. Look right into the security camera, and use it as a mirror while you pick your nose.

Have a blasting weekend everyone :-)

Looking back: Have we fulfilled the requirements of taqwa and graduated from the Ramadan school with the diploma of the god-fearing? Have we fought our souls and desires and defeated them, or have we been overtaken by our customs and blind imitations?

After an amazing 41 years and over 5.3 million cars, the Rover Mini finally ended production on the 4th of October 2000. The story does not end here however - A new "MINI" arrived to much fanfare and a new generation of fans - and the "Classic" Mini retains a HUGE following from its fans around the world. Long live the Mini! Mini World and Mini Resources are two links I can suggest to you guys to start your reading.

Wonder why all this fuss about Mini? Well, I practically grew up in one. And please look as what it might have looked like before the restoration, a parody by a good friend CS Wong

Art has now become mass produced, so the value of 'unique' has vanished. Most people have a sunset photo or two, maybe they have what they consider "the sunset photo". It will be a good photo perfect in every detail.

Fifty years ago, it could have been of some value, since there were not many sunset photos in your vicinity. Now, the guy next door can produce similar images, within a few minutes, even if there is no sun.
