Cresting out on Bay View Trail, the last little descent to the Fire Road was always a tricky little technical bit. A narrow good line very close to the tree over some roots. It had definitely degraded over the last few years - especially after the torrential rain which took out one of the bridges back a while back. It was a good way to check how I felt on the bike on a given day - you could run it if you didn't hesitate, but could get fouled up if you did. Anyway, I was walking it more often than riding it (especially since I seemed to mostly be on this trail on the Quickbeam).

This section update was probably for the better, but I'll miss that little test of concentration and flow.

Top o' the Lincoln Ave path, looking northward. This is the final pitch up from the tunnel to the crest at the top of Puerto Suelo Hill. The sun had popped out and just spotlit the growing grass. By the time I had the camera out, twas gone!

So, this is more of an informational shot showing what I guess are level rest stations for ADA compliance. There are also several rests on the path itself. With the right momentum, you can nab a little air on the southbound/downhill direction.

Drainage/Ice Issue

Just in the edge of the shadow in the tunnel, you can see a 3-4' spread of water draining from right to left in this photo. It's thin enough that on a cold AM or evening, it could easy freeze. I've rolled over it in the mid thirties on my commute and today which was maybe 40. Since it always seems to be present - even today after four or five dry days - it could get a bit slippery just from stuff growing in it.

Lincoln Avenue Path Curb View

To "calm" the southbound traffic velocity, they created a metal barrier to prevent folks from going left easily, but for some reason, think that a 3-4" curb will keep people from riding straight into the crosswalk.

In a curiously perfect world, people will see the curb, hook a right around the pole to push the Walk button, and wait for the light to change in the little yellow traction area.

In the real world, a cyclist moving at 15 mph will be past the "Walk bicycle..." sign before they see it, see green/Walk, hop the curb and enter the crosswalk directly - appearing WITH OUT WARNING in front of any vehicle who was looking LEFT to evaluate cross-traffic before turning right.

This is pissing me off the more I consider it. This is a bad, bad design element.
