This is my not so elegant solution to using 2 SB600s inside a Photek Softlighter 60" II umbrella box.

My stand is a Manfrotto 420B combi-boom. On top of that is an umbrella adapter. On the top of the adapter, I have a stud holding a Manfrotto magic arm double ball head clamp thingie (I don't know the exact name, it's old). On top of that I have a frio cold shoe. One SB600 is clipped in and another is ball bungeed back to back. I have the controls locked so settings aren't accidentally switched or the units turned off.

The Softlighter is fully assembled beforehand and the sock is slipped over the lights right to the clamp. An SU800 has no problem triggering it at moderate distances in direct sunlight.

Additionally, I've used a Manfrotto Justin Clamp with a SB800 clamped to the umbrella adapter and magic arm to get a third light in there when it's super duper sunny.
