These are some of my students. There are from my Internet Marketing class of Fall 2010. Here, they are dressed and ready to make a presentation on "Piracy on the Internet." What can I say? They were entertaining (hilarious, actually) and full of useful information.

This place, Eleena's art studio, has become one of my favorite haunts during my trips to Kolkata, India.

I can't say I have known Eleena for ages. Even so, she is easily one of my closest friends in Kolkata. And, certainly among the most accomplished.

Eleena Banik is one of those "newer" artists on the Indian art scene, whose works are greatly appreciated and sold in galleries world wide.

For me, this scene evokes memories of the extraordinarily elegant waka poems (the tankas) written by the Buddhist nun Rengtsu, which are wondrous and sublime works of creativity that shimmer with a quiet spirituality, sprinkled with a gentle wit.

If you are curious (or if you are a lover of poetry), I would strongly recommend to you the book, Lotus Moon: The Poetry of Rengtsu (Companions for the Journey).

Here's an example of a tanka (although this one is not by Rengstu):

Listening to: Tranquility by Chuck Jonkey.

This photo, with which I'd like to express my fondness and deep love for the embattled Gulf of Mexico, was taken from the Lighthouse Point at the edge of Tarpon Bay in Sanibel Island, Florida.

Sanibel is one of my most favorite destinations on earth. Along with its sibling, the Captiva Island, Sanibel sits like a crescent moon just west of Fort Myers, FL, at the eastern edge of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sanibel is home to the some of the most amazing beaches in the world, characterized by an incredibly large variety of marine fauna at the edge of the waters. The island itself is home to J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, a popular place for watching tall, wading birds.

Please don't miss the tree line, which is much clearer in the LARGE view.

Also, much better on black.
