Last stop before heading toward home. This is the west bank of Lochloosa Lake, viewed from the remoteness of Burnt Island. A very primitive place. Hard to believe that it's already been a week since I took this trip. Soon time for another... Stop #8 on my Friday road trip.

Small town Florida. Micanopy is about 10 miles south of Gainesville on US 441. Location for the movie "Doc Hollywood" (and you thought that was Alabama...). The back of the manatee in the previous image. The manatee's only natural enemy is man. This one, as almost all of it's adult kin, has had a run in with a propellor blade. This is a recent injury. I know that this is a bit hard to look at, and not the usual visual eye-candy... but this is a subject near and dear to my heart -- the preservation of Florida's fading natural resources. Even with the injuries, it's a gift to have such an encounter.

The lift gate insignia on a formerly blue Plymouth station wagon, rusting in the sun in a field adjacent to the Micanopy Chamber of Commerce / art gallery. Interesting to me that it started life at the Brewster, New York DeSoto-Plymouth dealer, which is a few miles from where I was born and raised.
