At The Gates of The Cold World

I have to say I’ve had a great weekend and Sunday was the icing on the cake, for two reasons.

First reason:

Around the beginning of March a friend of mine (Cashino) who is a prominent rapper of the hip-hop scene in London asked me if I could take a photo for his new album. The name of the song was called “Cold World” I went out to a place where I thought might best fit the title of the track and that was at the Eastern State Penitentiary, in Philadelphia. I had some really cool ideas and shots that I would like to have taken while in the Penitentiary. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to enter due to the fact that they had not started with free roaming self tours of the ruins. I was a bit bummed and had no idea what photo I would take for this shoot and I needed it to be done by the 15th of March. So since I couldn’t go inside I decided to take a picture of the front gate. It turned out that my friend really liked the photo. I then went ahead and added my friend’s name on the album as well as the title. I got an email from him today and now the album is available on Amazon.com as well itunes. I was so happy to see this, it’s my first album cover for a major artist :-)

Second reason:

I’m dedicating this photo to a friend Matt Voran . Thanks Matt for featuring me on your awesome page as one of your feature photographers! About the photo:

As mentioned early the photo was taken at The Eastern State Penitentiary here in Philadelphia. It’s an HDR Vertorama. The shot is composed of two 3 exposure shots taken at +2EV..0EV..-2EV. Processing was done using photomatix and photoshop. I had taken several shots of this with a tripod, but I wasn’t able to get the angle I wanted. So I decided to try and shoot it handheld and blind without a tripod to achieve the angle I wanted with the wide angle lens I was using.
