Morning Glory

markofphotography posted a photo:

Yesterday Kendra and I hiked the hills at Hoyt Arboretum and passed through this shockingly beautiful grove of redwood, sequoia and fir trees. I would have taken a photograph right then and there, but I neglected to bring a charged battery with me to the park. Woops! Really, it was refreshing to enjoy the hike without thinking about taking photos. I made up for it by waking up early today and going back. This time, with a charged battery.

Despite rain in the forecast, I had hopes of capturing a sliver of light from the sunrise and I sure got my wish! Cast from over the hill, intense yellow light enveloped the forest and the serene tranquility was palpable. It lasted only a few minutes, and the yellow washed away to gray.

YES!

markofphotography posted a photo:

At the trail head, we found ourselves surrounded by snow, a raging rapid and six waterfalls that weren't there this past summer. We knew it would be wet but how wet was something we weren't exactly prepared for.

Water from snowmelt was cascading down the trail walls around every corner. It was cold, wet, dreary and absolutely AMAZING! I think I burst out with laughter several times with sheer joy.

Unfortunately, we were forced to turn around earlier than anticipated. We got out to a late start and didn't want to be caught on the trail after dark. That, and only two of us were truly waterproof. Kendra and I went under the waterfall several times for good measure but this was the end.

We plan on returning very soon and this time, we'll be truly ready for it.
