From Despair to Hope: Taken before it was hit by flash flood in Aug 2010 and almost half of the falls (and its beauty) disappeared overnight. How sad ! But, major changes have occurred since August 2008 when a significant flash food swept through the canyon bypassing the old Navajo Falls, while creating two new falls. It is natural for the falls to change over time, as evidenced by the ancient crests lining Havasu and Mooney falls. The pools will regain their previous shapes as the process repeats itself as it has been doing for millennia; and sometimes with man's help to speed up the process.

at Silver Falls State Park, Oregon. South Falls is spectacular. This is the most popular and accessible of the waterfalls. It is also the tallest free-falling drop at 177 feet (53.94 meters). As with North Falls and Lower South Falls, the trail allows hikers to walk behind the waterfall.

Wild camels first originated in North America, and then, before the last Ice Age, they spread from North America to East Asia and then across to Central Asia and Iran and Arabia (and also south to South America where they became llamas and vicunas and alpacas). Then camels became extinct in North America, maybe during the Ice Age, but they survived in Asia and Africa. People in Central Asia were the first people to domesticate (tame) camels. They tamed camels long after they learned to tame cows and pigs, maybe about the same time as horses (about 3000 BC). Like horses, camels are not as tame and stupid as cows and sheep are. In Africa, beginning around 1000 AD, camels made it much easier to cross the Sahara desert, so people could trade between West Africa and North Africa. This started great trade routes which traders still use today. Around the same time, people in India also began to use camels more, along with the Islamic invasions of India.

Visit an ancient temple and much newer statue of Buddha: A very short walk will allow you to visit what is reputedly one of the oldest Buddhist temples in existence.
Sinheungsa Temple.
From the park entrance, hike several hundred meters past the cable car station up the valley where the large Buddha will soon be visible on the right. Shortly thereafter, one can cross any of three bridges and arrive at the Sinheungsa Temple which was originally built in the year 652.

This Wat or Buddhist temple is an architectural representation of Mount Meru, the center of the world in Buddhist cosmology. In the mythology of Tibetan Buddhism, Mount Meru is a place that simultaneously represents the center of the universe and the single-pointedness of mind sought by adepts. Thousands of miles in height, Meru is located somewhere beyond the physical plane of reality, in a realm of perfection and transcendence. The four-corner prang of Wat Arun, which house images of the guardian gods of the four directions, reinforces this mystical symbolism.
