Detail in the middle of the triptych. This little gem (each window is just about a foot high) is to be found in a side transept of St. Bridget's church in Oldcastle, Co. Meath, Ireland. I believe it is by the Irish artist Evie Hone, although I can find no mention of it on the Internet. A person in the church told me it was - so I must confirm that.

One of two windows by the renowned Irish stained glass artist Harry Clarke in St. Bridget's Church in Oldcastle, Co. Meath, Ireland. This one depicts the martydom of St. Oliver Plunkett, a local man from the Loughcrew area. My mother claimed that we were descended from the Plunkett family. Maybe most residents of Oldcastle do! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Plunkett - a tragic tale of intrigue and the execution of an innocent man. The Wikipedia piece makes interesting reading.

A friend on Facebook suggested a B&W version - and good it was too! Thanks Susan.

I used a red filter (darkens the blues) in Aperture to convert it. Best on a black background.

Descending from the ancient megalithic cairns on Loughcrew the lush pastures of Meath spread out before me. The hill on the right has more neolithic burial chambers from the same period - 3,000 BC.

From the highest point on top of CairnT in the Sleve Caillidhe mountains (another name for Loughcrew) i look towards the town of Oldcastle, where my family on my mother's side hail from. I wonder how far back they go - all the way to 3,300 BC to the spot where I am standing?

It looks like the top of the Cairn was scraped away to build a bonfire - maybe an equinox celebration?

Standing atop the cairn, the wind blew furiously and I could see the landscape for miles around, and the showers blowing across the landscape. A real "peak" experience.

Loughcrew Cairn at Oldcastle, Co. Meath (where my mother's family comes from). Estimated to have been built about 3,300 BC this is one of about 25 burial chambers, or megalithic tombs, stretching across four hills in north west Co. Meath in Ireland. This is Cairn T. The rising sun at Equinox (21 March and 22 September) shines directly down the passage to the back stone.
