Leonard of Vinci died in Amboise, France :)
Simply a nice blue and white French name plate on the wall of the chateau; it's odd to see this Francophone version, not the Italian. Don't know what caused the damage, but the street is narrow - a lorry's wing mirror perhaps?

The storm threatened as we arrived, and while inside we watched from the windows as torrential rain poured down the historic walls and even started to creep in and down a stairwell, visitors ran about in the courtyard, and we wondered just why had we bought inclusive tickets for the garden festival? Of course it passed; then there was that magical late-afternoon after-storm sunlight on the wet garden, and we didn't feel a drop.

View of the entrance on the right bank of the River Cher, and a glimpse of Diane de Poitier's garden in the foreground. The garden walls are covered with climbing iceberg roses, and over one hundred types of stemmed hibiscus flower in summer.
So much to see and shoot, but I think we'll leave Chenonceau for now, or I may still be uploading 'French holiday' in November ...
