This is the last shot I took before moving off to Aberdeen! Scary changes but has to be done!

Was a great night for a final shoot.

Been difficult to get out recently due to university - and will no doubt be the same now that I've started working in Aberdeen - so, for the moment, I've just let my pro account expire. It will be back when I get time.

Taken tonight at Loch Thom, very nice sunset tonight. This is looking away from the action and towards the pinkest of the clouds.

Finding it hard to keep an interest in landscape at the moment. I find I can only spare time to go to the same, very close by places. I Haven't been to Glencoe in ages!

So trying new things, like facing away from the sunset. Fairly happy with this. Now back to studying!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year.

Finally got my new camera after it was stolen by the courier service (as I'm led to believe DPD, named and shamed). A lot of changes from my 450D, so it's taking a bit of getting used to!

First and only outing I luckily found a clear patch of sky and fired off a couple of shots. Never really got the chance to test it out properly.

Top left is Orion's Nebulae, Bottom left is Jupiter and some moons and main image is the glorious milky way. Not too serious and on a high ISO, just testing the noise!

Sorry for lack of activity too, I'll try get a good browse through everyone's shots to see what you have been up too.

Took a run over to the east coast the other night expecting one of the best aurora shows of recent years but of course it was not to be.

Great location, had a good look about and found a very interesting cave. Had to crawl maybe 30m into it but then it opened out into a room. Interesting stuff.

Aurora can be seen down the bottom of this. Let the camera run out of battery.

Thom's Milky Way

The Milky Way. Took this at Loch Thom, very nice night for stargazing. Zoomed into Jupiter and seen 3 of it's moons, Orions nebulae, Andromeda galaxy and some shooting stars.

Next buy: a telescope!

P.S anyone know what the galaxy looking number is at the bottom right? Andromeda was up higher than that, having a difficult time figuring that one out. Messier object? Answers on a postcard!

Didn't notice my collar was sticking up, before anyone points that out!

After this picture was taken, I took over the camera and took a picture of my friend with Ran. To which Ran said "oh, we have the professional photographer now".

Perhaps it was just my stance he was talking about, but I gave a smile stuck in shock and wonder.

Shan't be forgetting that moment any time soon.

This was "A conversation with Sir Ranulph Fiennes" at the Greenock Arts Guild as part of the Birdie Bowers Dinner event. Great night had by all and a privilege to be a part of it.

Had an exam in uni last week, straight afterwards I took a jaunt up Ben Lomond. Great place to chill out when you have it all to yourself.

Not often I take a shot with myself in it!

Took a quick run up Ben Lomond yesterday incase the aurora kicked off again (it didn't until I had come home, of course).

Lovely sunset from the Ptarmigan Ridge, so peaceful. I was the only person on the hill - loved every second.

Looking back towards Port Glasgow (I can see Ben Lomond from my window).

Dukes Milky Way

Taken at Dukes Pass near Aberfoyle.

Great dark night (until the moon came up) this is the best I've ever managed to shoot the Milky Way with my camera which is on it's last legs.

30seconds ISO1600 with levels adjusted in Photoshop. Crap quality. But hey, my 450D does what it can!

SO glad the dark nights are back.

A quick jaunt to the Falkirk Wheel tonight with my pal Ross.

The lights were not on sadly, but I think this image works without them if I'm honest.

This is the composition I want for a big aurora shot.

Sadly the clouds rolled in tonight and this was the best I could get. You win some, you lose some.

Good shooting stars tonight, hope you all remember that this Sunday and Monday is the peak for a meteor shower. 100meteors an hour. Hope you're all going somewhere dark and cloud free!

The usual view of The Buachaille. Quite a large dynamic range going on so a bit of post processing to sort it out. Quite happy with it.

Fireball

Did anyone see the fireball exploding tonight? Broke off into a good amount of chunks then soared across the sky. I was too busy standing around like a nugget watching in awe to catch the majority of it on camera. This is the very last sight of it before it went over the horizon. The picture does it absolutely no justice.

It's an unfortunate coincidence that this is what the area is called! Anyone interested, more info here.

Learning more techniques for bringing out the night sky. The more I get into photography, the more the night sky appeals to me. I've always had a love for astronomy (originally wanting to study astrophysics in high school but ending up in Civil Engineering after starting out in straight Mathematics).

Loch Thom is a great area to see the stars for anyone in Inverclyde interested in it. Always welcome to come up with me any time.

This shot is a combination of two, as is most night shots. ISO1600 30secs for the sky. ISO200 8minutes for the building. All moonlit.

Gourock Bay Aurora

Probably the most proud I've ever been of a picture. Never thought I'd get this, although its been in my mind for a long time.

Was taking startrails at Loch Thom, turned around to face north and was gobsmacked to see it. (If anyone wishes to see the loch thom one, please visit the Aurora Research Scotland Group of facebook www.facebook.com/groups/341492972554625/)

This is a 10second exposure at ISO1600 for the sky (in hindsight, I should have used 800) and 1second ISO100 for foreground Gourock.

Second time I've seen the aurora in my life. Both times I've had my camera on hand. Luck plays its part.

Sunrise this morning with my friend Tracy.

Left at 2am for a 0520 sunrise. The midgies were out in force and thankfully I had remembered to buy some spray!

Taken from on the bridge which goes over the river. Nice vantage point however I wish the reflection of the Buachaille was more centred.

Glowing Fog

Firstly, apologies for the inactivity. I lost my battery and had a dry spell of the "can't be arsed's".

New battery arrived, charged and tested this morning for a 5am sunrise in Glencoe.

Was dying for some light to hit the peaks but there was too much cloud behind me. Another time! Not a very vibrant sunrise this morning.

Loved the way the low fog was starting to glow.

I'll try catch up with everyones shots soon.

Very quick visit last night to the lighting of the beacon. See a lot of guys with tripods but unfortunately wasn't one of them as my camera battery has suddenly vanished!
