While I was waiting for the sun to come up, I listened to the World Service discussing Osama Bin Laden, the Shipping Forecast (2,3 gusting 4) and Farming Today with a report on how the supermarkets probably won't pay arable farmers more for their crops despite a probable shortage because of the dry weather.

Then the sun came up, I took this and came home.

Not in Northumberland, but a view of it. Drove over to Jedburgh (not as weird as my parents warned) to leave some of Laura's jewellery in a gallery. Cheviots were looking fantastic, each day says 'winter' more and more officially.

A couple of days of strong easterlies is always a good thing.

In a rocky corner just outside of St. Abbs harbour wall was a giant porridgy mass of spume corralled by the waves thumping in. The rebounding surge from the wall met the incoming wave and produced some large and very dynamic shapes. Such an exciting afternoon! Took six hundred photographs and have three usable ones.

So, two more to follow.

Apart from some people, and one dog, the only thing I miss about the Midlands is Cannock Chase. It's a wonderful place. Colin's oak picture reminded me of this.

Two days of strong northerly winds may be bad news for the first brass monkeys of autumn but good news for bringing big seas in. This was such an exciting afternoon. If only you could hear it.

(I don't know what you can see, but Flickr says, no matter how many times I tell it otherwise, that this photograph was taken in Eyemouth, Scotland. Flickr, it really wasn't.)

It's on a road on the hill between two farms, Moorpark and Whiterig, but the group of houses a little way down the hill on a corner of the road is called Grunewald, which is such an unexpected name I couldn't help but use it.

Harthope Linn in the Harthope Valley, Northumberland National Park. It's not easy to spot as it's surrounded by trees and tucked away in a rocky cleft, but you can hang onto tree roots and scramble down. It's dark, cool, damp and lovely.
