The first time I ever went to Peggy's Cove I was sure I would not be impressed..until I got there! The massive rock goes on and on and the whole area is a fun place to explore.

On the way to peggy;s cove the sky was fairly "blah" and I was surprised to see the colors get richer as the sun set. But lesson to self: DO NOT FORGET THE TRIPOD! I left it by the back door and then went out the front door..silly me. good thing for image stabilized lenses! (Lens hood could have helped too LOL)

Just when I thought there would be nothing much for a sunset, the colors started emerging. Such a pretty night! So you KNOW I took lots of shots from lots of different angles...will try not to bore you.

A merge of a couple of shots and a lot of work ...always wanted to try a really long exposure of the waves at Peggy's cove and I had my tripod in the car but it was so windy I could hardly stand up, let alone set up a tripod...so I had to use my limited PS skills to create the look I was going for.

I can`t believe how little time I have had to sit at the computer over Christmas.I thought I would finally get some time to edit the rest of my Newfoundland photos from August, or another summer trip in July, but I have had a lovely time with family and company coming and going. So much for catching up! My husband was away for a few days visiting his mom in Newfoundland and came home a day early because we were supposed to get 20-30 cm of snow last night, and more today, but it is more a rain/snow mix than snow so far.

Peggy's Cove again...this time we got there early enough to catch the golden sunlight on the grasses. I was hoping for a bit more cloud but this was rather pretty anyway. The National Association of Professional Photographers conference was in Halifax and a busload of photogs was there...people were scattered all over the place with the tripods and gear so I am amazed there is no one in this shot (I did clone out one head from behind the rock on the left)
I know the "rule of thirds" is broken here but I like the path and fuller scene.

Calm evening and pretty sunset as we returned from Peggy's Cove one night in later September. I wish I lived closer to that area because the sunsets are always terrific out there.

Blended two exposures, then played with curves and colors and added a watercolor paper texture since I thought it looked a bit more like a painting than a photo....

More than 400 million years ago, in the Devonian Period, the plate tectonics movement of the Earth's crust allowed molten material to bubble up from the Earth's interior. This formed the rocks we see today and are part of the Great Nova Scotia batholith. The unique landscape of Peggys Cove and surrounding areas was subsequently carved by the migration of glaciers and the ocean tides. About 20,000 years ago, an ice ridge moved south from Canada’s Arctic region covering much of North America. Along with the ebb and flow of the glaciers, the ice ridge eventually melted and shifted and in the process scooped away and scoured large sections of rock, vegetation, and topsoil. As melted land glaciers flowed back to the oceans the changing tidal flows and rising sea levels filled the scarred areas with water, forming coves and inlets. Large boulders composed of 415-million-year-old Devonian granite, called glacial erratics, were lifted by the ice and carried for long distances before being deposited upon the landscape as the ice receded, leaving rugged barrens. The movement of the glacial ice and rocks left scouring marks in the bedrock that are still visible.

Peggys Cove has been declared a preservation area to protect its rugged beauty. The Peggys Cove Commission Act, passed in 1962, prohibits development in and around the surrounding village and restricts development within Peggys Cove. The area comprised about 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) stretching from Indian Harbour to West Dover and includes barrens, bogs, inland ponds, and rocky coastline.

Dories and buoys and lobster traps...signs of a fishing cove for sure...this is the same dory as in in the previous shot from Peggy's Cove. I hope the person who named it "Freedoom 55" is sitting on a nice warm beach somewhere now, because lobster fishing is a hard way to make a living in Atlantic Canada.

I usually like simpler scenes but all that "stuff" really caught my eye...

My friend Amanda, www.flickr.com/photos/amanda_white_photography/, has such a fabulous collection of Peggy's Cove images that I am afraid I will take a photo and get home and say, "darn, Amanda already has that one"...fortunately they move the boats around now and then LOL.....go see her great work...

I just got an early Christmas present, the Canon 60D and was out for a drive with my husband trying out the 18-200 lens that came with it. I already have a Sigma 18-200 so I am curious to see if the Canon is any better or if I shall return it (or sell the Sigma). This was f/14, hand held, 125 sec. Lightroom processing...details seem sharper before flickr...

How do you tell strangers to hold still? from a long distance?

Good thing some were old and moved slowly..LOL a blend of two exposures in Enfuse, with moving people shadows LOL..guess I should get a graduated filter for times like this. Any suggestions??? Taken 30 minutes after the previous one...
