Through the brash ice of the Lemaire!

While a little nerve racking to hear loud THUDS of ice hitting our ship as our polish captain steered us through a large section of brash ice...... It made for a great picture!

One of the most beautiful spots on the Antarctic Penisula, the Lemaire Channel is a place you can;t forget....it is truly stunning and a must do for all intrepid travellers.

The Lemaire Channel is a strait between the Antarctic penisula and Booth Island. Nicknamed "Kodak Gap" by some, it is one of the top destinations in Antarctica; steep cliffs hem in the iceberg-filled passage, which is 11 km long and just 1,600 meters wide at its narrowest point.

It was first seen by the German expedition of 1873-74, but not traversed until December 1898, when the Belgica of the de Gerlache expedition passed through. De Gerlache named it for Charles Lemaire, a Belgian explorer of the Congo.

The principal difficulty is that icebergs may fill the channel, and we had lots of brash ice on our trek through. Will post another picture soon with our trek through the ice.

In January, I fufilled my dream of getting to all 7 continents and I fell in love with Antarctica. A truly amazing place, like no other I have traveled to and full of great photo opportunities.

On Port Lockeroy (the most southern British post office) there was quite a large Gentoo rookery and amidst them were these two friendly chicks.

Iguazu Falls - From Brazil to Argentina

The great thing about staying at the Hotel das Cataratas on the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls vs the Sheraton on the Argentinian side is that you can take pictures ANY time you like!

So needless to say I exploited this to the max and be it sunrise or sunset I was out with my camera and beer in pocket to try to snap as good as picture as possible. This is the 2nd picture I have put up so far.....hopefully there is a 3rd respectable one in the collection ;)

This shot was taken from the main outlook from the hotel at sunset. It is a straightforward HDR shot, aided by a beautiful sunset! Needless to say, it was one of those travel experiences I wont forget quickly.

Sunset over Iguazu

The great thing about the Brazilian side of Iguazu is that there are no limits on taking pictures at any time of day....(unlike the Argentinian side).

So I went out at sunset to watch the colours appear. A truly stunning sight and a waterfall like no other I have seen.

Simply magic!!

Many people have been debating on Reddit.com how this picture was taken and apologize for not posting this information before. Life gets pretty busy. But here you are:

- Canon 30D
- Fisheye 15mm Lens
- Slik Tripod and Cable release
- I took three exposures at f/13 (1/4 sec, 1.3 sec, 4 sec)
- I used Photomatix Pro to combine the three pics into an HDR pic. (I use some of the Trey Ratcliff tips....http://www.stuckincustoms.com/. I like his work a lot!)
- Saved as a JPG and brought back into Lightroom
- Auto tone and a little sharpening.
- Thats it!

Only 4 people were there. My wife, myself and two other Brazilians. And my wife and I think this final result is a pretty accurate reflection of the scene....ohh except for the whispy falls...it don't look like that through your eye ;).

I could have probably yielded similar results with a graduated density filter, but I don't have one for my fish eye...doh!

Intercontinental Bora Bora - Sunrise

During our honeymoon we stayed at the Intercontiental La Moana in Bora Bora and this is one of the stunning sun rises over the magical over water bungalows....although the damage to the wallet is definitely NOT magical!

I took this as a 3 shot RAW HDR standing on the beach with a Chimay Beer (that bit is important) by my side. Turned out well.

A shot of Maupiti's paradisaical Tereia beach from the island mountain. This island is lost in the Pacific islands making it such a great find with less than 2,000 inhabitants and a laid back atmosphere!

I shot this with a 300mm zoom lens and a Canon 30D

Taken from the Hungerford Bridge next to Waterloo station at the Thames Festival Fireworks display. That is St.Pauls in the background and the Gerkin.

I used a cable release and BULB mode to manually control the shutter speed in time with explosions. Really pleased how this one turned out.

A shot of Maupiti's paradisaical beach on Motu Tuanai taken from the main island mountain. This island is lost in the Pacific islands making it such a great find with less than 2,000 inhabitants and a laid back atmosphere! The island lagoon is crystal blue and shallow, hence the people walking on the right.
